My students spend time listening to read-alouds, reading independently, and discussing books with their classmates. The new books have brought excitement to our classroom, and students are eager to explore different genres and topics. Having books that match a variety of interests and reading levels helps every child feel successful and motivated as a reader.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have already found new favorite books from our library and are excited to share what they are reading with their friends. These resources have transformed our reading corner into a warm, inviting space where students are excited to spend time with books. We use the area daily during independent reading, partner reading, and literacy centers. The book bins have helped us organize our classroom library so students can easily find books that match their interests and reading levels.\r\n\r\nOne special moment occurred during our recent reading workshop. Students eagerly grabbed pillows and settled into the reading corner with their favorite books. Several students commented that it felt like they were reading at home, and they were excited to spend extra time with their books. The cozy environment has encouraged even some of our more reluctant readers to choose books and stay engaged longer during reading time.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, their faces lit up with excitement. Imagine a swarm of five and six year olds enthusiastic responses after being told they were going to make music and play a song by hitting a tube on their desks. They were all in!\r\n\r\nThis is such a fun addition to our classroom, especially for my students who need to keep moving throughout the day. Each child has a colored tube that corresponds to a musical note. They follow along to the guided video or sheet music and whack their tube on the desk or floor to create the note and collaborate to play a song. With the laminator, laminating sheets, and printer ink, I am able to create durable learning materials such as literacy centers, math games, and task cards that students can use repeatedly throughout the year. The printer ink also allows me to print materials for our classroom focus wall, including vocabulary cards, phonics patterns, and anchor charts that students can refer to throughout the week to support their learning.\r\n\r\nMy students were especially excited to see these new materials being used during our daily lessons and centers. The laminator has been one of the most exciting additions because it allows us to turn simple printed activities into reusable learning tools. Students enjoy using dry erase markers on laminated activities because they can practice skills, erase their work, and try again without worrying about making mistakes.\r\n\r\nThese supplies have also been especially helpful for students who need extra practice and support. The reusable materials allow them to build confidence as they practice important reading, writing, and math skills multiple times. With your help, my students successfully communicate their ideas. From the large crayons that fit perfectly in their small hands, to the markers that have helped them write, and the play dough tools that helps build a vivid imagination while strengthening their fine motor muscles at the same time, my students have been able to flourish within the classroom setting. \r\nMany of my students came in this year with fine motor needs. When a student is unable to grip a pencil or crayon properly, the marks that happen on the paper are usually quite difficult to see and unrecognizable. Additionally, regular size crayons break very easily under the pressure of a Kindergarteners' grip. The large crayons have held under pressure and the markers help make marks seen. This gives students a sense accomplishment. \r\nI have 36 students all together. We have used the materials daily since we received them. With continued strengthening of the fine motor muscles, each student successfully created a birthday card for our principal all by themselves. Copying my model, they each wrote Happy Birthday on the front of the card. On the inside, they drew her pictures. They were also curious about how to spell other things they wanted to say to her, so I modeled how to write their compliments, so they could let her know. She was so surprised to receive all the love on her special day. It make the students feel so special that they could write a birthday card.
