I wish I could showcase every zine, but these are some of the standout examples. The students genuinely enjoyed reading these books, and their engagement has encouraged me to consider incorporating these titles into the 9th-grade curriculum, not just because I enjoy these books but because they did as well.Their feedback showed that the books were not only interesting, but also relatable and meaningful to them as freshmen.\r\n\r\nToday, students also completed group presentations in which they shared insights about the books they spent the last several weeks reading and discussing. The group that read The Hobbit highlighted its connection to the hero's journey and the importance of stepping outside of your comfort zone. Students who read The House in the Cerulean Sea shared that the novel helped them feel seen, encouraged empathy for those who are different, and emphasized the importance of found family. The group that read The Radium Girls explored a pivotal moment in history, examining both the experiences of women workers and the devastating impact of radium production and use.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your support. This project was one of the highlights of the school year and an experience that students truly enjoyed. The ability to offer the students' supplies and give them the ability to destress with creative activities is priceless. \r\n\r\nThe arrival of fresh supplies was a very happy day this year and they have been used everyday since! The students paid their own way through the first two conferences, and I would love to be able to help them with the costs of going to Nationals. It will cost them each $1,200 to go.
