Because of your generosity, our high school English students were able to read, discuss, and study The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This book has provided so many benefits to the students as they have spent the past eight weeks reading it.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our students have had the opportunity to:\r\nIdentify and analyze themes: We talked about the themes of love and loyalty, as well as the importance and power of words.\r\nTrace character development: We watched Liesel grow and change as she developed life-changing relationships and navigated life in World War II Germany.\r\nRecognize and analyze symbols in the book: We discussed the author's purpose in providing symbols that enriched the story and its emotional impact.\r\nPractice summarization skills: We read each section of the book and summarized the action and key points, which enhanced their understanding and reading comprehension.\r\nDevelop the art of asking good questions: Each time we read a section of the book, the students divided into groups and led their own discussion about the themes, characterization, and symbols that they saw. They learned how to ask thought-provoking questions and lead discussions with their peers.\r\n\r\nThank you again. Because of your donation, our students have become more discerning and thoughtful leaders. They have developed reading and collaborative skills that will serve them throughout their educational careers.
