Your gift has impacted over 100 chemistry students. Using inquiry-based curriculum, we investigated the components needed for life to emerge on exoplanets. We discussed the Goldilocks Zone, the environmental criteria that is required for life to be sustained. This enabled us to inquire about chemical molecules, phase changes, periodic table organization and chemical bonding. \r\n\r\nStudents created posters highlighting the water molecule and its role in sustaining life. This enabled students to complete self-guided inquiry and report out to classmates about what they learned. We hung these posters in the hallway, sharing what the students learned with our school community. \r\n\r\nOur next lessons will cover chemical reactions. This will expand our discussion to the role of the carbon cycle and the greenhouse effect in maintaining favorable conditions for life. Discussion of combustion reactions will provide a basis of inquiry about human activity on the environment.","fullyFundedDate":1754889344587,"projectUrl":"project/inquiring-minds-want-to-know-about-chemi/9534457/","projectTitle":"Inquiring Minds Want to Know About Chemistry","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Wetmore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5363422_orig.jpg?crop=5335,5335,x1894,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661286635306","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5363422"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_76732","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1728,"numTeachers":103,"percentFrplEligible":59,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":24,"percentWhite":33,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.3,"schoolId":76732,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about North Kansas City High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"North Kansas City High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/north-kansas-city-schools-74/north-kansas-city-high-school/76732"}
