Your kindness has made a life-changing difference in the lives of our students, and the positive effects are visible every single day in our school community.\r\n When I first created this project, my goal was simple, yet deeply important--to ensure that all of our students had access to basic hygiene products that many of us may take for granted. What I did not anticipate, however, was the tremendous ripple effect that your support would create. Thanks to your contributions, our students not only have the means to take care of themselves physically, but they also walk with greater confidence, self-respect, and pride. \r\n Before this project was funded, we often faced difficult situations where students felt embarrassed or isolated because of hygiene challenges beyond their control. This sometimes led to teasing or bullying among peers. As a result, several discipline referrals were directly related to hygiene-based conflicts or what some would call bullying. Since implementing the project, I am proud and grateful to share that the number of these incidents has significantly decreased. Our student are learning empathy, understanding, and self-care--all because they now have the tools and resource to meet their basic needs with dignity. \r\n Each morning, students visit the hygiene station to quietly select what they need--whether that's deodorant, lotion, hair care items, body wipes or chap stick. It has become a normal, judgement-free routine, one that promotes not only cleanliness but also self-worth. Many students have expressed their appreciation directly, sharing how these items have helped them feel more comfortable, more confident, and more ready to learn.\r\n One story that stands out deeply to me involves a student who was face a possible suspension due to wearing headgear in violation of our dress code policy. After speaking with her, we discovered that she was wearing the head covering because she could not afford the hair products she needed while waiting for her parent to get her hair braided. Thanks to the supplies provided through this project, we were able to help her style her hair appropriately and avoid disciplinary action. More importantly, she was spared the embarrassment and shame that might have followed. She now smiles every morning when she walks into school--proud of her appearance and comfortable in her own skin. That single moment perfectly captures the heart of what your donation has accomplished. \r\n Because of your generosity, our classroom and school culture have grown stronger and more compassionate. Students now understand that everyone faces challenges, and that it's okay to ask for help. The products you helped provide are used daily, not just as hygiene items, but as symbols of care and community. You have helped us create an environment where students can focus on learning rather than worrying about their appearance or being teased for circumstances outside of their control. Your contribution has done far more than supply tangible items--it has restored confidence, dignity and hope. You have show our students that people in the world truly care about their well-being. That lesson is something they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.\r\n On behalf of our students, their families, and our entire school community, thank you for believing in this project and in the potential of every child. Your generosity has not only improved hygiene and associated mental health issues, but it has also inspired kindness, empathy and belonging within our halls. You have made a lasting impact that goes far beyond what words can fully express.","fullyFundedDate":1754411592602,"projectUrl":"project/closing-the-gap-hygiene-and-mental-well/9424117/","projectTitle":"Closing the Gap: Hygiene and Mental Wellness","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rascoe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp260814_orig.jpg?crop=285,285,x28,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752756076585","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/260814"},{"teacherId":260814,"projectId":9068005,"letterContent":"I am writing to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who contributed to our DonorsChoose project, \"Under Construction: Building Self-Esteem\". Because of your generosity, our group of amazing young girls was given the tools, space, and support to explore their strengths, build confidence, and create lasting habits for positive self-direction.\r\nThe small mirrors were a key part of our group sessions, and I can't express enough how powerful they became in helping students truly see themselves, both literally and emotionally. Through several guided mirror exercises, the girls were encouraged to look at themselves and speak affirming words aloud, a practice many had never tried before. This activity was uncomfortable at first but it quickly became a group favorite. All students began to light up with pride and newfound confidence each week. The fact the each girl was able to keep her mirror at the end of the group allows them to continue this empowering practice at home during the summer, helping to sustain the progress they made.\r\nThe bracelets were also a beautiful addition, serving as daily, wearable reminders of each girl's strength and individuality. Before the group ended, each girl selected words or phrases that represented the best parts of themselves---such as resilient, brave, or kind---and those affirmations are now literally within arm's reach at all times. These bracelets quickly became cherished items, and I've already heard several girls share how they've relied on them in moments of doubt or stress. We provided a few extra bracelets for the girls to share with someone else who may have similar struggles.\r\nOf course, opening up about personal feelings and experiences can be difficult, especially for adolescents. The snacks you provided may seem like a small gesture, but they made a big difference. They helped lighten the emotional atmosphere and gave students something comforting to enjoy while participating in these vulnerable discussions. This seemingly simple addition contributed to creating a warm and welcoming group environment where students felt more at ease sharing openly and authentically. One girl in particular, would not share for the first few sessions and she shared that the snacks helped the group seem more like a friend group than an actual therapeutic group. \r\nLastly, the journals have proven to be one of the most impactful components of the program. The girls used them to reflect on our discussions, complete self-esteem exercises, and write affirmations. As the group sessions came to an end, each student was encouraged to continue journaling on their own this summer to maintain the positive self-talk habits they've developed. Several students expressed that journaling has become a personal outlet and something they look forward to. These journals are now more than notebooks; they are safe spaces for growth, reflection, and hope.\r\nThank you again for making this experience possible. Your kindness has created real, lasting change in the lives of our students. You've not only helped boost their self-esteem, but you've also given them tools and practices they can carry into the future. The girls are asking for the group to continue when they return in Fall 2025. On behalf of every student who participated, thank you for believing in their worth and potential.","fullyFundedDate":1738764281198,"projectUrl":"project/under-construction-building-self-esteem/9068005/","projectTitle":"Under Construction: Building Self-Esteem","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rascoe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp260814_orig.jpg?crop=285,285,x28,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752756076585","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/260814"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2309","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1616,"numTeachers":72,"percentFrplEligible":80,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":51,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"22.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":59.1,"schoolId":2309,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about North Brunswick High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"North Brunswick High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/brunswick-county-school-district/north-brunswick-high-school/2309"}
