My beginner-level English language learners worked together to read and follow the directions, and they successfully built the bookshelf as a team. This was such a meaningful experience for them—they practiced reading, collaboration, and problem-solving all at once. They were so proud to see the finished product, knowing they built it themselves. The bookshelf fits perfectly in our reading area and helps create a welcoming, organized space where students feel comfortable and excited to learn.\r\n\r\nThe new books have also been a wonderful addition to our classroom. They are at just the right reading level for my students—accessible without feeling too childish, which is so important for high school learners. Students are much more motivated to read when they feel respected and interested in the material. The soccer book, in particular, has quickly become a favorite, especially among the boys, and it is constantly being checked out. Thank you for helping us create a classroom environment where students feel capable, engaged, and excited about reading.","fullyFundedDate":1774543883314,"projectUrl":"project/a-shelf-of-possibilities/10137487/","projectTitle":"A Shelf of Possibilities","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Marchand","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6468167_orig.jpg?crop=1244,1244,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756135597318","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6468167"},{"teacherId":6936860,"projectId":9590902,"letterContent":"When the new staplers and hole punches arrived, it may have seemed like a small upgrade, but for my classroom, it made an immediate difference. Whether students are collecting data, recording observations, or analyzing results, having well-prepared materials keeps them on track and engaged. It has also helped our classroom run more smoothly, allowing us to spend less time on logistics and more time diving into meaningful statistical thinking.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the year, students are using these organized materials to support larger projects, including designing their own studies and preparing for end-of-year assessments. During lessons, students regularly step into the role of \"teacher,\" leading mini-lessons, modeling reading strategies, and guiding their peers through activities. Having sturdy, comfortable teacher chairs has made a big difference—they are now able to confidently take on these leadership roles while seated at the front of the room, just like a teacher. This simple shift has helped build their confidence, especially for our English Language Learners, who benefit greatly from practicing speaking and teaching in a supportive environment.\r\n\r\nThe desk organizer has also become an essential tool for student success. When preparing to teach, students use it to neatly store and organize their lesson plans, worksheets, and materials. This helps them stay focused and prepared, allowing their lessons to run more smoothly. It also reinforces important skills like organization, responsibility, and independence, which are key components of both academic and real-world success.\r\n\r\nTogether, these resources have helped transform our classroom into a more engaging, student-driven space. The use of this timer is a game changer in developing strong classroom routines.\r\n\r\nI teach high school engineering and my students are learning the Autodesk Fusion CAD/CAM system. Each day, they spend 10-15 minutes at the beginning of class on a warmup in which a new topic in Fusion is introduced, building off of the previous day's work. The timer helps us create intentionality for that time. Sometime we chat for a minute or two before the timer goes on, but when it does, the students know exactly what it means, and they get right to work. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, I use the timer to challenge students to be resourceful. I'll implement \"Three Before Me\", a 10-minute timed period in which they are not permitted to ask me any questions. They must use the resources I've provided to try to answer the question for themselves, do their own research, or lean on a peer for some help. If they still can't figure it out (which is rare), they are free to ask me when the timer expires.\r\n\r\nThanks again for your support!","fullyFundedDate":1759837248218,"projectUrl":"project/building-strong-classroom-routines/9786135/","projectTitle":"Building Strong Classroom Routines","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Kinney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9262628"},{"teacherId":6468167,"projectId":9704472,"letterContent":"Thanks to the markers and lamination sheets donated through DonorsChoose, my ESL classroom has become a brighter, more engaging place for my high school students.
