Math curriculum is changing as our society changes. No longer should our students be in rows solving equation after equation. They should be collaborating and finding a variety of ways to solve problems. I want to turn my classroom into an environment that promotes critical thinking and creative problem solving so students leave my course confident to tackle messy, never-before-seen problems in the real world. Time should be spent on application and experience. Flexible seating for collaborative learning, such as the requested tables, will promote communication and collaboration, which are necessary skills to succeed in the real world. A student centered classroom allows for students to be risk-takers and learn that mistakes allow for opportunities for growth.
