Students often ask to use the flexible seating because they are excited to have a comfortable place to sit and work together. One specific moment that stands out is when a group of young boys asked if they could move their group to the new area during group work time. This is a group that wouldn't normally focus on their work, but the rule was that if you sit there, you have to work. They worked very well together. Also, an unexpected benefit was that the seats became a cool-down area where students could reset, focus, and even complete assignments on their own.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new seats, their faces lit up with excitement and curiosity. They immediately asked, \"When can we use the new chairs?\" Having the new addition has encouraged students to want to work together or independently so they can use the seats.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using the flexible seating. I will purchase a classroom rug to make the area more inviting. They will continue to read, discuss, and reflect on their reading and writing in the space that feels most comfortable for them, helping build both engagement and independence as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1746842210448,"projectUrl":"project/dive-into-a-book-flexible-floor-seating/9284459/","projectTitle":"Dive into a Book: Flexible Floor Seating for Teen Readers!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Quinney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5401692"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_13650","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":588,"numTeachers":66,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":58,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"8.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.7,"schoolId":13650,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Nichols Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Nichols Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/arlington-independent-school-district/nichols-junior-high-school/13650"}
