The supplies from this project have become such a valuable resource for my students and, unexpectedly, for students outside of my classroom as well.\r\n\r\nWhen I originally created this project, we were anticipating having much more limited access to a school nurse. Thankfully, we were able to get our nurse back! However, I quickly realized that having these supplies available in my classroom still serves an incredibly important purpose. Students know that my classroom is always a safe place where they can quietly ask for what they need, whether that is a bandage, a pad or tampon, or another basic personal care item.\r\n\r\nMiddle school can already be an awkward time, especially when it comes to asking an adult for something personal. Having these supplies readily available allows students to take care of a small need discreetly and get back to their day without it becoming a big deal. Some students have even developed preferences for the products we have available in my classroom, and I have had other teachers send students my way when they know I have exactly what a student needs.\r\n\r\nThe supplies have also helped take some of the pressure off of our school nurse. Not every small cut, unexpected period, or basic hygiene need requires a trip to the nurse's office. When I can help students with those smaller needs in the classroom, our nurse has more time to focus on students who truly need medical attention.\r\n\r\nOne of the things I value most about this project is the trust it has helped create. My students know they can come to me without embarrassment or judgment, get what they need, and move on with their day. Sometimes the smallest things can have a huge impact on whether a student feels comfortable, confident, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThese supplies continue to be used regularly, and I know they will support many more students throughout the school year. Thank you for providing something that may seem simple but has made a meaningful difference in my students' everyday lives. Students know that if they need something, they can see me before or after class starts, grab a snack and get back to learning without making it a big deal.\r\n\r\nWhen the snacks first arrived, my students were so excited! It was one of those simple classroom moments that made them feel genuinely cared for. They immediately noticed the variety and were very eager to see what was available. Since then, the snacks have become a small but important part of our classroom routine, and word has spread that Ms. Vanessa has snacks! \r\n\r\nThese resources have helped my students stay focused and ready to participate in everything from class discussions and health lessons to group activities and projects. As we continue through the school year, my students will be working through new health and wellness topics that require them to think, collaborate, and participate actively in class. Moving between stations helps engage the middle school brain as they move their bodies and learn new information. Having clipboards helps students take their notes with them as they go. \r\n\r\nI have already used the mini-whiteboards in several activities to increase student voice. When students have mini-whiteboards, every student is able to respond, instead of just one student with their hand up. This was THE BEST way to end an incredibly tough school year! I would love to share more, but without knowing your science background, I don't want to overwhelm you. \r\n\r\n\tIn a nutshell, instead of writing down a string of amino acids on paper to create a protein, I (with the help of a genetics unit I purchased from TPT) changed the amino acid codon chart to give cookie decorating toppings. My two advanced classes followed those instructions after coding their own DNA chain and then transcribed it to an mRNA chain to then decorate their own cookie. They used their knowledge to accurately decorate three different versions of cookies, which is what you see in the pictures. \r\n\r\n\tMy three GenEd classes used their knowledge of DNA to create DNA models out of licorice and gummy bears. My 7th period class (the toughest one) probably had the MOST fun, and they created their models perfectly! \r\n\r\n\tThank you so much for helping me end the school year with a bang! I also had so much fun helping and monitoring their progress! I've loved being a teacher, sharing my LOVE of science and teaching students that it's okay to be a nerd haha! These experiences help build technology skills, problem-solving abilities, creativity, and attention to detail.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is being able to create something that has a real purpose. They enjoy designing flyers, posters, certificates, and signs for classroom activities and school events, then seeing those materials displayed and used throughout the school. Knowing their work supports teachers, staff, and other students gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment. They are especially excited by the printer's high-quality color printing because it brings their ideas to life in a professional-looking way.\r\n\r\nSome of the students who have benefited the most are those who learn best through hands-on experiences.
