The resources you provided have truly made a difference for my students!\r\n\r\nMy classroom is filled with 7th and 8th graders, some of whom are reading at a 3rd grade level. For many of these students, picking up a book is not something they usually choose to do. Thanks to your donation, they are now excited to open a book. Several students who already enjoy reading have even taken the chapter books home, eager to learn more. Through these stories, they are discovering the experiences of people who grew up deaf in a hearing world. This has helped them not only see a new perspective, but also begin to understand the importance of including people in their lives who communicate in different ways.\r\n\r\nBecause my students' reading levels vary, our class has mainly focused on American Sign Language as a visual language rather than the written form. With your resources, students now have the chance to explore and expand their reading skills in a way that is accessible and engaging—without any stigma attached.\r\n\r\nIn a year marked by significant budget cuts—more than we have faced in many years—there have been very limited funds to purchase primary resources. The textbooks you provided have become a guiding force for instruction, giving students both a physical resource and clear copies of signs to reference. This support has filled a critical gap, ensuring that my students have meaningful tools to strengthen their learning.\r\n\r\nIn addition, many of my students are gifted artists. The coloring books you provided have allowed them to see how art can be used to connect culture and language. These illustrations show sign language alongside individuals of diverse ethnic backgrounds, which beautifully reflects the diversity of our own classroom community. This has been both valuable for my artists and inspiring for all students.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has sparked joy, curiosity, and growth in my classroom. Creating a school store where students can spend these Begich Bucks has been a new endeavor for our school, and we have experienced the ups and downs of fundraising and keeping it stocked with items that motivate students. In fact, last year, at the end of our first year with our school store, many students complained that our school store was not being restocked with desired items. \r\n\r\nAt the beginning of this year, we surveyed students to see what items they would be interested in receiving. Decks of Cards, personal items like lotion and chapstick, and fun school supplies like these cute cartoon pens were among the items listed. A colleague shared with me about using Donor's Choose, so our team started creating small projects in the hopes of getting them funded. The fact that this project was easily and quickly funded was a blessing to our school, and we have since invested more time in using Donor's Choose. Students were so excited to see the new items in the store and because they were smaller, less expensive items, we have been able to keep them in stock so students can purchase the items as needed or desired. \r\n\r\nKnowing there are donors out there who care about things like school stores that make schools special is so encouraging in a time where educators or constantly expected to do more with less.
