These books became a special part of our daily routine. After lunch, we would settle in and read together, giving students a quiet and enjoyable way to wind down before continuing with the rest of our afternoon. It quickly became a time that students looked forward to each day.\r\n\r\nAlong with the novel, students worked through a companion packet that helped them practice important reading skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, character analysis, making predictions, and using evidence from the text. After reading, students worked in groups to discuss and complete their responses. We would then come back together as a class, and I would call on different students to share their thinking and help us complete each section. This gave students the opportunity to learn from one another and build confidence sharing their ideas.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the novel helped make reading feel exciting and accessible. Students became invested in Percy's story, the characters, and the mythology throughout the book, which led to some wonderful conversations and connections, since we were also learning about Greek mythology for Social Studies. Your generosity allowed my students to experience a novel together as a class while strengthening their reading, discussion, and collaboration skills.
