Many of them had never experienced a hands-on lab like this before, so seeing the specimens and tools set up in the classroom immediately sparked curiosity and conversation. Students were eager to jump in, ask questions, and compare what they were seeing between the two species.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting moments was listening to students notice similarities and differences between the frog and squid on their own. They discussed how each organism's body structures are designed for survival in completely different environments and began making connections about adaptations, movement, feeding, and protection. Students were especially fascinated by how two very different species can still share similar functions needed to survive. The hands-on experience encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and meaningful scientific discussions throughout the lab.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are focused on comparative anatomy and evolution. Students will use their observations from the dissections to compare body systems across species and explore how structures relate to survival and environmental adaptation. They will also complete projects where they analyze similarities and differences between organisms and explain how those traits help each species thrive in their ecosystems. Thank you for helping bring these engaging and memorable science experiences into our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1756936405895,"projectUrl":"project/squid-and-frog-dissection/9549678/","projectTitle":"Squid and Frog Dissection","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Richey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9680811_orig.jpg?crop=1220,1220,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723767068174","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9680811"},{"teacherId":10075837,"projectId":9456768,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding our project. The students were so excited when they found out our project had been funded. They love being able to change the color of the cube the meet their personality. \r\n\r\nWe did change what we were doing with the cube. At first we tried matching the cups with numbers to another cup with dots. The students couldn't really see the dots as well as I had thought. We then changed it to using cards to pick a number and dinosaurs to count. The students really enjoyed this part.\r\n\r\nNow that we are counting objects, we are going to try adding the objects. They can see that if they have 5 dinosaurs on the left and then 2 dinosaurs on the right you can add them together to get 7. This was just an example.\r\n\r\nThank you again for fully funding my project, my students are learning having this component in the room to help them learn new math concepts.","fullyFundedDate":1756936271383,"projectUrl":"project/light-up-math-activities/9456768/","projectTitle":"Light Up Math Activities","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Marlow","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10075837_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752173633776","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10075837"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6591","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":629,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":48,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":29,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":53.6,"schoolId":6591,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Newberry Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Newberry Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/newberry-county-school-district/newberry-middle-school/6591"}
