My students were ecstatic when they were introduced to the items provided by you, our generous donors. They couldn't wait to get started with this project. This project has helped my students both academically and socially.\r\n\r\nThis project has helped students with all standards in education. They had to research on their group's seeds and they then collected information that would help them successfully grow their group's plants. They are using measurement tools to supply seeds with the correct amount of water they need. My students will also be in charge of researching how we can have a successful outside garden before our plants get transplanted. They worked together to create an indoor environment that would help their seeds grow so that we can transplant them to an outdoor garden in the spring.\r\n\r\nThis project has also helped my students socially. This project has had a positive impact on the relationships between students. I didn't foresee this as a benefit from this project, but they are eager to work together and teach each other about how they can be successful with growing their seeds into plants. They are also holding each other accountable for the research needed to help them achieve their goal.\r\n\r\nThis project will continue throughout the rest of the year. We will, when the weather permits, be transplanting our plants outside so that we can harvest produce at the end of the school year. Students participated in weekly robotics groups to learn core values and team roles as they built their lego projects. Teams were 2-4 students. As students were working on their projects, we were able to display them in the hallway display case. All elementary students enjoyed walking to lunch and looking at their work! All teams had to share with their parents how the app worked and show them the coding process. \r\n\r\nWe are planning another round of Lego groups in February! During our sessions, teams of 2-4 students were created. They were taught about the core values and team roles. At the first session we just explored with the kits. At subsequent sessions, teams learned about the SPIKE app and began one of many builds. Teams were encouraged to build many different projects using the app. A lot of persistence and problem solving occurred and we learned to connect hubs and run programs. With parent night approaching, teams pick their final projects. Parents were blown away by the final project presentations. We had little cars and ferris wheels running all over the cafeteria!
