While many people think of technology as digital, interactive notebooks serve a similar purpose by helping students actively process and organize information. Instead of passively taking notes, students are cutting, sorting, writing, and responding to texts in ways that deepen comprehension and make learning more memorable. These notebooks allow students to revisit concepts, track their growth, and make connections across lessons.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students has been the opportunity to take ownership of their learning. They love building their notebooks and using them as a personalized resource. The hands-on nature of the materials—foldables, graphic organizers, and color-coded sections—keeps students engaged and supports different learning styles, especially in our co-taught classroom. Many students who struggle with organization or focus are now more invested because their notebooks give them a clear, structured way to interact with content.\r\n\r\nI have seen particular growth in students who benefit from visual and tactile learning experiences. For example, some students who were previously hesitant to participate are now more confident because they can refer to their notebooks to support their thinking. Others take pride in maintaining their work and are eager to share it with peers. These interactive notebooks have helped create a more inclusive and engaging classroom where all students can access the curriculum in a meaningful way. Thank you for making this possible!","fullyFundedDate":1758202906337,"projectUrl":"project/interactive-notebooks/9517876/","projectTitle":"Interactive Notebooks","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Walker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8224317_orig.png?crop=326,327,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1680182983683","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8224317"},{"teacherId":8224317,"projectId":9228044,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom now has access to color paper and highlighters—simple tools that are making a meaningful difference in how my 6th grade ELA students engage with reading and writing. While these supplies may seem basic, they have transformed the way students interact with texts. Using highlighters, students are able to identify key ideas, annotate important details, and track patterns in their reading. Color paper has helped us organize our thinking, with different colors representing different skills—like vocabulary, main idea, or text evidence—making abstract concepts more visible and easier to understand.\r\n\r\nStudents are especially excited about having their own materials to use during lessons. The highlighters, in particular, have become a favorite tool, allowing students to actively \"dig into\" texts rather than passively read. This has been especially impactful in our co-taught classroom, where students have a wide range of learning needs. The visual and hands-on nature of these tools supports comprehension and helps students stay focused and confident during independent and group work.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled to engage with grade-level texts have shown noticeable growth in both participation and confidence. For example, some students who are hesitant readers are now more willing to share their thinking because they can point directly to what they've highlighted as evidence. These tools are helping all students—especially those who benefit from additional structure—feel more successful and included in our classroom community. The new pillows you provided have turned a simple corner into a cozy, welcoming space where students genuinely want to read.\r\n\r\nWe introduced the pillows during independent reading time, and the reaction was immediate. Students' eyes lit up as they realized the space was just for them. Several students said it felt like \"a real library\" or \"a café for books.\" One student, who is usually reluctant to read aloud or participate, quietly grabbed a pillow, settled in, and read for the entire period. That moment alone showed me how powerful comfort and environment can be in encouraging engagement.\r\n\r\nWe are currently working on a literary response project connected to our class novel. Students choose a comfortable spot in the reading area to annotate, reflect, and draft their responses. The pillows have helped students focus longer and engage more deeply with the text. I've noticed richer written reflections and more thoughtful discussions during small-group conversations. The physical comfort has truly supported academic growth.\r\n\r\nNext, students will begin creating \"Character Insight Boards,\" where they analyze character development using evidence from the text. They'll draft their ideas in the reading corner before transferring their final work to presentation boards. The reading space will continue to be our brainstorming and collaboration hub—a place where ideas feel safe to grow.\r\n\r\nYour support has done more than provide pillows. You've helped create a calm, inviting environment where students feel valued and motivated. For many of them, school is their most consistent space for comfort and encouragement. Because of you, they now associate reading with relaxation, focus, and joy.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving our students a soft place to land—and an even stronger place to learn.\r\n\r\nWith gratitude,","fullyFundedDate":1703869860355,"projectUrl":"project/comfy-furniture-for-reading/7625144/","projectTitle":"Comfy Furniture for Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Walker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8224317_orig.png?crop=326,327,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1680182983683","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8224317"},{"teacherId":8224317,"projectId":9227767,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations that made it possible to bring new, diverse books into our 6th-grade classroom.
