I have gotten to know students who were in search of snacks and who now ask for help writing their personal statements for college, scholarships, and job applications. We hope that by reading more titles that they find fun, they will begin to challenge themselves to read more, and improve their reading levels over all in and outside of the classroom.\r\nMy students come into class first thing in the morning excited to find their books, and find out what happens next. Many students have been reluctant readers, for one reason or another. However, supporting the burgeoning interest in reading with books that they actually find enjoyable has been transformational.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments this semester was when a very shy student, who historically has been work-avoidant, asked to take a book home over the weekend because she was so invested in it after one morning of independent reading time. Another example of the transformative power of the new books is when 4-5 students from very different social groups developed an impromptu book club after all reading the same book. The enthusiasm and details of their conversation about the novel, and their eagerness to read the next book in the series was heartwarming.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping to change my students' minds about reading, and ultimately, changing their lives for the better by showing them new experiences and perspectives in literature.","fullyFundedDate":1727971709671,"projectUrl":"project/bye-bye-boredom-hello-books/8845297/","projectTitle":"Bye-Bye, Boredom; Hello, Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Couto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5521832_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1531336406102","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/couto"},{"teacherId":1978828,"projectId":8659780,"letterContent":"We are so grateful for your generous donations that have made our project a reality.
