Many people are familiar with gaming at home, but in our school setting, this technology becomes a powerful tool for learning. My students are using the Switch to practice communication, teamwork, and strategic thinking as they prepare for Rocket League and Mario Kart competitions. They're learning how to work together, support each other, and stay focused under pressure, skills that benefit them far beyond the game.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students the most is the chance to compete like a real esports team. The moment they pick up the controllers, you can feel their confidence grow. They analyze plays, discuss strategy, and encourage one another in ways that bring out leadership qualities I'm so proud to see. For some students who are quieter or less confident in traditional athletics, esports have given them a place where they can shine.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular has truly blossomed since we received this equipment. He joined the club feeling unsure about his abilities, but the Switch has opened the door for him to participate, connect with classmates, and discover strengths he didn't know he had. As soon as I unboxed the materials, they gathered around to explore the model, pointing out the different phases of mitosis and asking thoughtful questions about how cells grow and reproduce. Having a physical model made abstract concepts come alive in a way that diagrams in a textbook simply couldn't. For many of my students, it was the first time they could truly visualize what happens inside our bodies on a microscopic level.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the new materials during our life science unit on cells and genetics. Students have worked in small groups to identify and label the stages of cell division using the model as a guide, and they've even created their own mini-presentations explaining each phase. The basic school supplies—markers, notebooks, and colored pencils—have helped them take creative, organized notes and produce colorful, detailed diagrams to reinforce their understanding. One memorable moment was when a student who usually struggles in science proudly explained the difference between metaphase and anaphase to the class, using the model as a reference.\r\n\r\nOur next steps will build on this foundation as we transition into exploring how genetic information is passed from one generation to the next. The students are eager to connect what they've learned about cell division to traits and heredity.
