Reading articles with real world connections helps increase student comprehension skills as well as their fluency. Continuing to use the same material can become boring and lack engagement. Full color magazines like Scholastic News and Time bring the outside world or rather the universe right to the classroom. Sponsoring this project will give my students the means by which they can increase their comprehension skills as well as be connected to the real world. Benefits to this project go beyond a reading class, but connects to all other subject areas, as the articles in these magazines cover many different subjects.
