I chose to not call this time \"silent reading\" due to the negative connotation it has, but instead \"independent reading time\" because my upmost goal is to foster an environment where children do not feel like they have to read, but rather they want to read. Your generous donations to my project is helping me to just that.\r\n\r\nThe students are loving the floor cushions; not only do they want to use them for reading, but they're wanting to use them for independently working on assignments, as well. I'm using the magnetic spice racks as hanging book shelves, and I have been able to aesthetically showcase wonderful books that get buried in my book bins. I try to switch out the book displays at least once a month to promote new releases or important books of whatever genre we're discussing. Finally, the new books themselves have, of course, made the largest impact in our classroom. For Black History Month, I have a designated picture book display that feature characters of color on the covers. The majority of this population are not people of color, so being able to promote diversity and uniqueness through books is an honor that I do not take for granted. The students who prefer to read nonfiction have been loving the sports novels, as well. They already want more! \r\n\r\nAgain, words cannot express how grateful my students and I are. Thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1765826398745,"projectUrl":"project/cozy-reading-bookstore-vibes/9871298/","projectTitle":"Cozy Reading- Bookstore Vibes","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ranger-Scott","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10340101"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_72807","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":505,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":92,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"21.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.4,"schoolId":72807,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about New Lothrop Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"New Lothrop Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/new-lothrop-area-public-school-district/new-lothrop-elementary-school/72807"}
