When we read a novel together, we are not just following the story—we are learning how to analyze characters, track themes, make predictions, and support our thinking with evidence from the text. This book has been especially powerful for teaching students how authors build tension and develop complex characters over time. Students are constantly discussing Katniss's decisions, the pressure she faces, and the larger themes of power, rebellion, and sacrifice.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is very interactive. Students read sections of the novel both independently and together, and we pause often to discuss what is happening and why it matters. They annotate key passages, participate in small-group discussions, and complete creative activities that help them think more deeply about the story. It's incredibly rewarding to see students who may not have considered themselves \"readers\" become invested in the plot and eager to find out what happens next.\r\n\r\nSome of my students have become especially excited about this series because of how immersive the story is. I've had students come in the next day saying they couldn't stop thinking about the chapter we read or asking if they could read ahead. Moments like that remind me how powerful the right book can be. Your support has helped create those moments and has given my students the opportunity to experience a novel that truly captures their interest and builds their confidence as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1769210073938,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-a-love-for-reading-with-catching/9952618/","projectTitle":"Fueling a Love for Reading with Catching Fire","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brubaker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9720285_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725324728786","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9720285"},{"teacherId":9720285,"projectId":9434455,"letterContent":"I want to sincerely thank you for supporting my classroom through our \"Classroom Basics\" project. Your generosity has already made a noticeable impact, and I wanted to take a moment to share what a difference you've made for my students.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, our classroom is stocked with the essentials many people don't realize we run out of so quickly — pencils, paper, erasers, paper towels, and other daily supplies. These may sound simple, but in a middle school classroom, they are truly the backbone of learning. Having these materials readily available has removed the stress and embarrassment for students who don't always have what they need. Now, instead of worrying about supplies, every student can focus on participating, writing, thinking, and learning.\r\n\r\nI've already seen an increase in student confidence and engagement. Students are eager to jump into activities because they know they are fully equipped. The basic supplies you funded have created a calm, productive learning environment where all students feel prepared and included — and that is priceless.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and in the work we are doing every day. Your generosity didn't just fill our supply cabinet — it filled our classroom with opportunity, dignity, and excitement for learning. We are truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1759265420568,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-basics-for-a-bright-start/9434455/","projectTitle":"Classroom Basics for a Bright Start","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brubaker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9720285_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725324728786","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9720285"},{"teacherId":9720285,"projectId":9249683,"letterContent":"The binders have been an incredible tool for helping my students stay organized and take ownership of their learning. Each binder serves as a personal hub where students can keep all of their materials in one place, including their journals, notes, and class handouts. Having a designated space for everything means fewer lost papers and missing assignments, which is a common challenge in middle school.\r\n\r\nThe binders also include a pencil pouch with basic supplies, ensuring that students are always prepared for class—even if they aren't able to bring materials from home. This consistency allows us to spend more time learning and less time tracking down missing items.\r\n\r\nBy keeping everything in one organized spot, my students are able to build habits that will help them not just in English class, but across all subjects. These binders give my students the tools to stay focused, responsible, and confident in their work.","fullyFundedDate":1746645290302,"projectUrl":"project/better-learning-one-binder-at-a-time/9249683/","projectTitle":"Better Learning, One Binder at a Time!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brubaker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9720285_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725324728786","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9720285"},{"teacherId":9594837,"projectId":8499866,"letterContent":"For my students at New Augusta North, they have been using the folders to keep organized for all the different homework papers from different classes. They have been using the markers to decorate their different projects. The books we ordered Saint Louis Armstrong Beach have really been a hit.\r\nWe have used the markers, the big post it notes and the posters all to decorate the room. The students loved the stickers. I can't wait to set up another Donors Choose for next year. I have students from 21 different languages within my school. They all appreciate all of the gifts. Thank you again for all of the gifts and for all of your support.\r\nIt is amazing how small the world is when I have so many languages in the same building.\r\nThank you again for your generous donations.","fullyFundedDate":1732559916048,"projectUrl":"project/lets-get-organized/8499866/","projectTitle":"Let's Get Organized","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Richardson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9594837"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_19836","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":751,"numTeachers":48,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":67,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.3,"schoolId":19836,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about New Augusta Public Academy North on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"New Augusta Public Academy North","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/indiana/metro-school-district-of-pike-township/new-augusta-public-academy-n/19836"}
