My Art 1 students where so excited to get to try out this new type of clay! I had told them about the project beforehand and they had been asking almost every week when we would be getting to the gargoyles. \r\n\r\nFor the project, students explored the difference between a Gargoyle and a Grotesque, and used their creativity to design a gargoyle that would stand guard over an area that was important to them. Some students picked their bedrooms, or a specific shelf of precious items. Other students chose their pantry and stash of snacks. I also had them consider in their design what they were protecting that space from. Most students chose to drive away a little sibling from their selected space, which made me laugh quite a bit. \r\n\r\nMy students really enjoyed the polymer clay! They let their creativity shine with their designs, and they made some beautiful and unconventional gargoyles, and learned about creating armatures and sculpture along the way. \r\n\r\nThanks again to all of you for making this project possible!","fullyFundedDate":1758733957200,"projectUrl":"project/gargoyles-come-to-life/9631907/","projectTitle":"Gargoyles Come to Life!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pagola","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10199632_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y355&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755711063874","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mspagola"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_34350","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":328,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":66,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":6,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"9.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":82.8,"schoolId":34350,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Nelson Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Nelson Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/nelson-county-public-school-district/nelson-middle-school/34350"}
