When I first revealed all the instruments, they were all asking me when the first chance they would get to use them would be. Shortly after that is when we started a songwriting project. With the new resources like the boomwhackers, hand drums, and extra ukulele strings, we were able to finish the songwriting project over the past month. Students got into groups and took a few weeks to write their own song using classroom instruments; guitars, rhythm sticks, shakers, hand drums, boomwhackers, and ukuleles. At the end of the project they performed it for the rest of the class and they rocked it! Having the drums and ukuleles definitely motivated some kids to work hard to write a song that they were proud of.\r\n\r\nBeyond this, when I put up the posters and music graphics around my room the kids were really excited for it. They had been mentioning that my room felt dull but now is starting to actually feel like a proper music class. It has definitely had a positive effect on their outlook for my classroom. \r\n\r\nThe next steps for my class is to look towards getting various Orff instruments to show students different pitched percussion instruments as a foundation to notation. This semester I've tackled this with just their iPads but I know having a real instrument makes the connection even stronger and faster to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1758220471764,"projectUrl":"project/music-room-starter-pack/9612898/","projectTitle":"Music Room Starter Pack","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Z","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10182947_orig.jpg?crop=1532,1532,x259,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755654718821","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ncp-mr-z"},{"teacherId":8192065,"projectId":9476179,"letterContent":"I cannot begin to express the impact your generosity has had on my classroom. Thanks to your support through DonorsChoose, we were recently able to host our very first Open Mic Friday an inspiring event that gave students a safe and welcoming space to share their creativity and voices.\r\n\r\nAs part of the event, students created concrete poems inspired by characters from the novel we're reading in class. These poems allowed them to explore character perspectives in a deeply personal and artistic way. They also had the opportunity to reflect on stereotypes or challenges they've overcome, sharing powerful messages with their peers.\r\n\r\nTo celebrate their hard work and bravery, students were treated to snacks during the event, which helped create a relaxed, supportive environment. The experience was so impactful that students are already asking when the next Open Mic Friday will be.","fullyFundedDate":1755730595544,"projectUrl":"project/positive-behavior-support-system/9476179/","projectTitle":"Positive Behavior Support System","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8192065_orig.jpg?crop=2208,2208,x0,y250&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659667133546","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8192065"},{"teacherId":9807382,"projectId":8887496,"letterContent":"Words cannot begin to describe the appreciation my students and I have to you for your generosity. \r\nIn my initial post of this fundraiser, I was describing the ways in which my ukulele's would aid my students. The biggest focus of that were my English Language Learners (ELL's). These students, for a couple of weeks, were having so much trouble keeping up in my classroom despite my efforts of communicating with them through the language barrier. However, when we gained access to these beautiful instruments, I could see a quick shift. With ukulele, I didn't need to describe things to them like I had to before. I would show them a chart or move their fingers for them to help them in playing. I was suddenly able to communicate with them through the ukulele; showing them strumming patterns and chords and having them copy me. And finally, I could see a light in their eyes. They finally were able to receive clear help from me without someone translating. They were finally able to keep up in class because they didn't need to understand my words, they just had to understand and see my hands.\r\nThank you for allowing me to help my students feel a part of a community, and to feel like they belong.","fullyFundedDate":1730669633587,"projectUrl":"project/help-my-kids-juke-with-a-uke/8887496/","projectTitle":"Help My Kids Juke With a Uke!","teacherDisplayName":"Mx.
