You have provided us with an opportunity that helps unlock a new dimension to our art program. After hearing the wonderful news and seeing boxes filled with reed for our basketry, my students were excited to begin.\r\n\r\nCurriculum was taken directly from our Indian Education Department, which is part of the fabric of our Public Schools and our State's Educational Standards. As a result, my students were able to explore Native American basket weaving.\r\n\r\nStudents quickly realized that the Cherokee single-wall baskets are far more challenging than they assumed.\r\n\r\nI was able to sneak in my STEAM Art curriculum as we considered how tension plays a vital role in structure and how an over-under pattern secures connections without knots, tape, or welding.\r\n\r\nMoreover, you were able to enrich my students' lives with more technical and cultural experiences, provide greater knowledge, and empower them to implement various techniques to satisfy their artistic expression.\r\n\r\nThroughout the school year, I will continue to differentiate my art students from other students in the greater community and the region.
