The new chess pieces have helped our after-school chess group continue to grow in ways that have honestly been amazing to watch. What started as just a few students learning how the pieces move has quickly turned into a group of students who are thinking ahead, practicing strategies, and becoming more confident every week.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest impacts has been watching students slow down and think before acting. Several students who originally rushed through games and became frustrated are now carefully thinking through their moves and considering what their opponent might do next. Students have proudly celebrated moments like making it through a game without losing pieces, controlling the middle of the board, or staying calm during difficult matches. One student who previously became very emotional during games recently played an entire game with focus, patience, and self-control, even while under pressure. Moments like that have shown how much growth is happening beyond just learning chess.\r\n\r\nThe excitement for chess has continued to spread throughout our school. Students have started watching ChessKid videos at home, practicing with family members, and coming back eager to share what they learned. One student proudly told the group he had practiced with his dad and won two matches at home. During a lunch game between me and one of the students, several children quietly gathered to watch with full attention, and another student asked me afterward if I could teach her how to play. Our next step is helping students learn stronger opening moves and strategies while continuing to build a positive chess culture focused on thinking, patience, sportsmanship, and confidence.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping create opportunities that are making such a meaningful difference for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1772106174250,"projectUrl":"project/thinking-moves-chess-for-elementary/10111645/","projectTitle":"Thinking Moves: Chess for Elementary","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Bo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8598340"},{"teacherId":10075670,"projectId":9456382,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity for helping bring my project to life. When the new materials arrived, my students were so excited to see what was inside! They immediately started exploring the books and were so happy to see new The Bad Guys books. We started reading Charlotte's Web for our teacher read aloud, and the kids love listening to it! \r\n\r\nWe've already put the supplies to good use. I have such a creative bunch this year, so the colored paper, glue sticks, and art materials have been perfect for crafts. They would be so content cutting, gluing, and coloring all day if I would let them!\r\n\r\nHowever, I think the biggest hit of all was the flexible seating. The comfy seats have been a HUGE hit! My students love when I let them sit on the chairs during reading or independent work time. Plus, they are easy to store which is my favorite part.","fullyFundedDate":1755463522932,"projectUrl":"project/from-blank-walls-to-bright-minds-my-fir/9456382/","projectTitle":"From Blank Walls to Bright Minds: My First Year Wishlist","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bentley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10075670"},{"teacherId":9839499,"projectId":9109343,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your generous support of our classroom! Because of your donation, my students now have access to new books, flexible seating, and essential materials that are already making a huge difference in our learning environment.\r\n\r\nThe moment my students walked in and saw the new resources, their faces lit up. Many of them immediately grabbed books off the shelf and began reading with excitement. The flexible seating has given them choice and comfort, allowing them to focus more deeply on their work. One student even said, \"It feels like our classroom is made just for us now.\"\r\n\r\nWe are currently diving into a unit where students are working in small groups to explore novels and share their ideas through discussions and projects. The new books have given every student a chance to find a story that sparks their interest, and the seating allows them to collaborate in ways that weren't possible before. Our next step is to build on this excitement by starting literature circles where students take on roles such as discussion leader, illustrator, and connector—roles that help them practice responsibility and teamwork while engaging with texts.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not only provided materials but has created an atmosphere of joy, comfort, and possibility in our classroom.
