What started as a simple outdoor seating area has quickly become a special gathering place for our school community. The tables are already being used as an outdoor classroom where students can read, write, collaborate, and enjoy lessons in a new environment outside the traditional classroom walls.\r\n\r\nDuring recess and playground time, the tables have also become a fun social space where students can sit together, talk with friends, play games, and build positive relationships. Many students who sometimes struggle with the noise and activity of the playground enjoy having a calm place to relax and connect with others.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite moments so far was taking a class outside for a reading activity. The students were so engaged and excited simply because the setting felt different and special. They immediately asked when we could have outdoor class again!\r\n\r\nThese picnic tables are helping us create flexible learning opportunities while also giving students a welcoming place to gather, learn, and grow together. Students have worked together to stack objects, test stability, and figure out why some designs work better than others. They learned quickly that even small changes can affect balance and movement.\r\n\r\nOne of the best parts has been watching students encourage each other and keep trying even when something falls or does not work the first time. Instead of giving up, they adjust their ideas and try again. The moment the boxes were opened, students immediately began asking questions, exploring the pieces, and brainstorming ideas for what they could build. These resources have quickly become a favorite part of our classroom because they encourage creativity, teamwork, and hands-on problem solving in a way that truly engages every learner.\r\n\r\nWe are using the materials during STEM centers and collaborative building challenges. One memorable moment was watching a group of students work together to design and rebuild a structure after it collapsed. Instead of getting frustrated, they encouraged one another, tested new ideas, and celebrated when they finally succeeded. It was wonderful to see students practicing perseverance, communication, and critical thinking so naturally through play and exploration.\r\n\r\nAs we continue using these resources, students will move into more advanced design and engineering challenges connected to our classroom learning goals. The Clorox Wipes has allowed my students to learn about sanitary, and has kept them from getting sick. Your generosity provided snacks, essential tools, and fun, learning materials. The kids certainly enjoyed the Goldfish crackers and the Welch's fruit snacks. We use the dry erase markers and the pencils daily. The Magna Tiles were a big hit! My students love building with those; these are always a popular choice when we have free choice time. The Wikki Stix provide a fun, but educational way, for the students to practice the letters of the alphabet and how to spell their names. The finger flashlights are also one of their favorite items! They often ask if we are going to use them.\r\n\r\nWhat may seem to be simple items to us are truly special items to my students! I love watching them use their creativity and imagination while building with the Magna Tiles. A love for reading is encouraged by the use of the finger flashlights. Their brains are able to function better when they do not feel hungry in the morning before lunch because they had a snack. The dry erase markers and pencils provide essential practice in writing. \r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to see all of the new materials!
