The installation is up high, hanging from the ceiling and adorning the alcoves above doorways. Paper machet sea creatures dangle from wire or string, while coral and sea grass provide homes on the wall for the 2-D fish they made with the markers or paint. Model Magic formed the base for creatures hiding in the reefs in the alcoves.\r\n\r\nThroughout this project, students learned about the great garbage patches and the impact of plastic and other waste on the ocean's health. We watched video shorts, read articles and had conversations about what each of us can do to help. They saw how young people can have power when we watched Greta Thunberg address the UN Climate Summit. Last week, we started adding bits of trash to the installation which we will remove tomorrow for Earth Day - our own great ocean clean up. While making the installation, we talked about climate justice, which leads right into our next project that includes installing a giant paper pipeline that will dominate the hallways as we prepare for Native American Heritage Month in May. \r\n\r\nIn addition to projects detailed above, kids always have designated free-art in the class. This is time where they can explore the materials in bins and on shelves to create something of their own designs. I am always amazed at what they come up with when given access to cardboard, felt scraps, air-dry clay and random bling. \r\nIf you give a kid a gluegun...","fullyFundedDate":1737335803240,"projectUrl":"project/art-transforming-space-transforming-li/9039907/","projectTitle":"Art: Transforming Space/ Transforming Lives","teacherDisplayName":"Mx.
