Our students deserve the best experiences that students all across our district can have, and your support helped bridge that gap to create a sense of dignity, pride, and excitement in our community.\r\n\r\nThe pictures show just two projects we completed. 6th graders were tasked with designing bookends that were themed around books and stories that they personally connected with. Once the book was chosen, they had to create at least 3 new items that represented core themes, items, or characters from the story. Once completed, we printed the bookends and have donated them to the library to be on display. Our library has been going through some construction, so we're excited to finally see them in action this year!\r\n\r\n7th graders were assigned to research what goes into creating a successful sport's team mascot, then incorporate what they found into designing a brand new mascot for a team either imagined or for a team that exists without a mascot. After completing their 3D design, we were able to print them into reality so they could show off their unique thinking and creations. Every student was so excited to see their design come to life after working on it from a computer screen.\r\n\r\nMy 8th graders were able to use the 3D printers in a bit of a unique way - they were asked to create a physical, playable game out of cardboard and incorporating physical computing components called micro:bits into their design. Students were allowed to use the printers to create any objects (golf balls, flippers, bowling pins, signs, etc) to add another layer of interactivity to their game. These fancy, new 3D printers were crucial in our ability to efficiently print out these game pieces that allowed them to continue their work instead of trying multiple times hoping for the 3D printer to actually cooperate, as was happening with the printers that were replaced.\r\n\r\nFinally, I am happy to say your impact by supporting this project impacted our student body who were not in my class by allowing us to print awards and medallions for students who were regularly on-time to their classes or won contests. Being able to easily customize these prizes specifically to the student helped encourage student engagement by rewarding them with things they actually cared about or gave them an additional sense of personal accomplishment when they saw their names printed on the medals.\r\n\r\nI could continue to elaborate on how these printers impacted our community in how fun it was for them to actively watch the printers create things; how they would clean up the classroom or actually complete work when they wanted to help pull the prints off the printers or remove the supports, or would go an extra step further in their classwork when promised they could print something if they went above and beyond, but we all have limited time and I've already rambled so much. Again, I'm floored by the generosity of the Donors Choose community and hope you all know the great impact you can make on our school system.\r\n\r\nI really appreciate you all, thank you for making a difference.","fullyFundedDate":1726692776625,"projectUrl":"project/imagine-our-communitys-future-and-extru/8695621/","projectTitle":"Imagine Our Community's Future and Extrude Excitement With 3d Printers","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Haines","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9702157_orig.jpg?crop=648,648,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724432543017","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9702157"},{"teacherId":9654310,"projectId":9079791,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom through \"The Joy of Making Slime: A Year End Art Celebration.\" Thanks to your donation, my students were able to explore creativity and science in a hands-on, joyful way.
