I cannot express their excitement!\r\n\r\nThe dystopian genre is a unit my district assigns to eighth-grade and my kids love the unit! It involves critical thinking, futuristic societies, real-world connections, and wild scenarios! My current selection of novels for this unit are too complex and too far-reaching for the typical eighth-grade student. With \"The Hunger Games,\" it is about a teenager who struggles to comply with society's rules and is forced to help the greater good. I want them to be able to connect with a character, and they will be able to with this novel!\r\n\r\nBefore we begin reading, students will be researching their chosen district, see the ins-and-outs of how a society goes from a utopia to a dystopia, I will have them work with odds and probability of their district's victors, create propaganda posters, and truly see what goes into the publicity with promotion. We will start this in two weeks and they cannot wait!\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness to help my kids and all my future students!","fullyFundedDate":1756761169890,"projectUrl":"project/fostering-a-love-of-reading-through-dyst/9671057/","projectTitle":"Fostering a Love of Reading through Dystopia","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Quick","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9467173"},{"teacherId":9297794,"projectId":9697509,"letterContent":"My students have really enjoyed the STEM projects that you have provided!\r\n\r\nHere are some of the things they had to say...\r\n\r\n\"This was challenging, but fun!\"\r\n\"Thank you for the cool and creative projects!\"\r\n\"It was fun!\"\r\n \"Thank you for letting us learn with these amazing materials!\"\r\n\"This was great, but I wish that the screws were bigger!\"\r\n\"Thank you! We now have fully functioning class sets of Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie for the entire 7th grade. They work on skills like analyzing theme, character, and narrator voice. \r\n\r\nThis book is unique because it appeals to a wide range of students. Most students can identify with the main character's struggles in middle school, as well as his relationship with his parents and brother. We started our Tuck Everlasting unit when we returned from spring break, and the students are really enjoying the story. I read the book out loud to the students while they follow along, and as we read, I pause and ask questions as well as answer any questions they might have. Some of my 6th graders still love to climb under their desks and have the lights off for reading time...so we do that now and then as well. :) \r\n\r\nWhen teaching a novel, the goal is to reinforce the elements of story with the students. Earlier in the year, we read another novel and the students focused on setting, character traits, plot and theme. In this unit, they are applying those elements in literature circles. Every time we finish a group of chapters, they have a different job which they prepare for in advance, and then they share together and discuss the novel. I've been impressed with their insights! \r\n\r\nEven the students most resistant to school and learning can be drawn in by a good story! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share this novel with the sixth graders. I think they are enjoying it!","fullyFundedDate":1733252283488,"projectUrl":"project/imaginations-are-sparked-with-tuck-everl/8827512/","projectTitle":"Imaginations Are Sparked With Tuck Everlasting!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Schneider","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9592959"},{"teacherId":5633614,"projectId":8673618,"letterContent":"On behalf of our students and staff, we want to extend our deepest gratitude for your generous support in helping create the Quiet Room in our middle school counseling office.\r\n\r\nThanks to your contributions, we've been able to design a space that offers our students more than just a place to pause—it's become a sanctuary where they can regulate their emotions, take mindful breaks, and wait quietly for support during times of need. The impact of this room is visible every day in the lives of our students.\r\n\r\nFrom the moment they step inside, students express a deep sense of joy and relief. They often describe the Quiet Room as a place where they feel seen, safe, and understood. Many have shared how much it means to have a space that truly meets their developmental needs—a place that feels calming, supportive, and uniquely theirs. It fosters not just regulation, but also a real sense of belonging and care.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped us create a model of what responsive, emotionally supportive environments can look like in a school setting. Our vision now is to extend this work beyond the counseling office—into classrooms and shared spaces throughout the building. We are committed to redesigning more of our school environment to reflect the same intentionality, support, and responsiveness that the Quiet Room has come to represent.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the importance of mental health, emotional regulation, and the well-being of our students.
