This funding has made a profound impact on the mathematical learning in my classroom, through the implementation of the Counting Collections activity, and I am excited to share the positive outcomes it has facilitated.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, Counting Collections has made it possible for my students to explore and develop their counting skills by engaging with a \"collection\" of objects to figure out how many items are in the set. This hands-on activity not only encourages students to count but also empowers them to create written representations of their counting process. By allowing children to count and represent in ways that make sense to them without adult demonstrations, they can think flexibly and develop their own strategies.\r\n\r\nFor example, students might move objects in and out of containers, organize them in a line, sort them into groups by color, or slide them from one pile to another. These various approaches help them coordinate the different aspects of counting and build a strong foundation in numerical thinking. One of the most inspiring outcomes was seeing a group of students collaborate to count and sort a collection of craft materials, discussing their strategies and learning from each other in the process.\r\n\r\nThis project has enhanced mathematical learning in an engaging and meaningful way but has also laid the groundwork for fostering problem-solving skills and flexible thinking. The ripple effect of your generosity will continue to shape the way my students approach math and numbers for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1725850749767,"projectUrl":"project/counting-collections/8751685/","projectTitle":"Counting Collections","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. R.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp213494_orig.jpg?crop=1128,1128,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725842120938","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/213494"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_39701","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":204,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":7,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"10.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":78.6,"schoolId":39701,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Morningside Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Morningside Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/great-falls-school-district-1a/morningside-elementary-school/39701"}
