Students are looking forward to checking out the other topics and they enjoy looking through the books when they have free time. Students have interviewed their friend to learn about their likes and dislikes. They used what they learned to present their friends with several options and their friend gave feedback. From there students designed the final idea that they would make. A few students are done, but soon we will have piles of cute stuffed pop-tarts. Students enjoyed learning how to hand sew and for many of them this was the first time they've sewn anything. This project was for a range of tapes and glues that students will be able to use on their projects. Students have used tape in constructing and testing out airplanes. My students had a tremendous opportunity to have a fashion show at our school, even after several setbacks. Most of my students had never used a sewing machine before and these were perfect. Originally, my students were only going to use hand-sewing techniques, but after our visit to Kent State University and their Fashion School, as well as having the opportunity to work with college students to help to get them started with creating their fashions I could not allow them to not continue that experience back at our school. \r\n\r\nThey were so thrilled to know that I had gotten sewing machines for them to use to continue and complete their upcycled fashions that also included recycled materials and were focused on specific themes. This was an experience that they will never forget and the audience gave them a standing ovation. \r\n\r\nWe will continue to use the sewing machines for creating upcycled clothing and story quilts down the line. When observed by any teacher or staff member they would earn what is called a Monti buck to purchase items from the Tiger Store . Each buck was worth one dollar. School incentives were mostly snacks. Because so many students enjoy art, art supplies and crafts materials, I had my own Tiger store to allow students to purchase art supplies with incentive bucks. So many students can't afford the basic school supplies but would love to have their own art supplies to use any time and take with them. \r\n\r\nEach time I open up my Troy Tiger store my students' eyes would light up. They start counting their Monti bucks hoping that I still had left what they were eyeing previously. As quick as the materials come in is as quick as they go.
