Many of you love reading—and we love that about you—but teaching young readers is its own kind of magic. These new texts allow us to introduce essential literacy skills in ways that feel joyful, meaningful, and culturally affirming for our students.\r\n\r\nThe books you helped provide support a wide range of early literacy skills: vocabulary development, phonemic awareness, comprehension strategies, and the ability to make connections between text and personal experience. Several of the new titles include rich, descriptive language that helps students practice visualization—one of the most important comprehension skills for young readers. Others introduce predictable patterns and repeated phrases, which support emerging readers as they learn to track print, recognize sight words, and build confidence. Many of the books also feature diverse characters and family structures, which opens the door to conversations about identity, belonging, and empathy. These are not just stories; they are tools that help children understand themselves and the world around them.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is a lively, interactive experience. We read together on the carpet, with students leaning in, pointing to pictures, and predicting what might happen next. We read in small groups, where students practice decoding and fluency with gentle guidance. We read independently, too, giving students the chance to choose books that speak to their interests—animals, superheroes, families, feelings, and everything in between. Our reading block is full of movement, conversation, and discovery. Students talk to each other about what they notice, what surprises them, and what reminds them of their own lives. The room often hums with excitement, and it's not unusual to hear a student say, \"Can we read just one more?\"\r\n\r\nSeveral students have been especially energized by the new books. One student, who was previously hesitant to participate in reading activities, has become deeply engaged with a new series featuring a character who looks like him and shares his love of adventure. He now volunteers to read aloud and proudly explains the story to his classmates. Another student, who is learning English as a new language, has been drawn to the bilingual books in our collection. She often chooses them during independent reading time and has begun reading simple phrases aloud with growing confidence. These moments may seem small, but they represent enormous steps in literacy development—and they are happening because of the resources you helped provide.\r\n\r\nYour support has created a classroom where students feel seen, capable, and excited to learn. The books you funded are not just filling our shelves; they are filling our days with curiosity, connection, and joy. Thank you for believing in our students and for giving them the tools they need to grow as readers and thinkers. Your generosity is making a lasting difference, one page at a time.","fullyFundedDate":1773869215975,"projectUrl":"project/books-to-spark-curiosity-and-joy/10142436/","projectTitle":"Books to Spark Curiosity and Joy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Burns","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp431124_orig.jpg?crop=275,275,x243,y268&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727721542595","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/431124"},{"teacherId":431124,"projectId":9566107,"letterContent":"Thanks to you and your generosity our classrooms have new jumping boards.
