I have a class that enjoys stories and have the enthusiasm to want to pick a book up so having the resources to build that ELA foundation is amazing. Working on Phonemic Awareness, blends, digraphs, or the basics of a reading a book (e.g., left to right, title, authors name) has been really helpful with these materials. As a teacher in a small school with a limited budget, support such as this helps me help my students to have access to what both I need to teach and what helps them to learn. All children learn differently and at different paces and the items have been able to help when working in small groups based on what their learning focus is. They love when it's reading corner and they can grab a bean bag or one of the other seating options and they can grab a book and read. Prior to this we only had my teacher chair and the carpet. I also now have two calm corners. Depending on what is going on in the room there are different places my students can go to try and use the tools provided to regulate emotions when they have those big emotions and also if they did not get enough sleep the night before they can have a moment to lay down while listening to instruction or if they finished. The stools have been so helpful when I pull students 1:1 or for a small group. They now don't have to drag their chairs across the room, we have other seating. All in all, this has helped with having more time to work with my students as well as giving my students seating in areas of the room that allows them to regulate and calm down when those big emotions happen, because most of them are still learning how to handle big emotions. My class enjoyed seeing the boxes come and being a part of helping to set up a calm area to help them. I personally want to thank you also as I would not have been able to provide my students with these items without Donors Choose and the kind individuals who help us support our students. There is not always just one child feeling overwhelmed or upset, and now I have a spaces for multiple students to go, where they feel safe and are in a safe place to work through their emotions. I am able to pull my students and have 1:1 seating to give them that 1:1 support for their academic needs. This has helped with both my student social and emotional needs as well as their academy needs and I couldn't be more grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1770064885596,"projectUrl":"project/seating-for-small-groups-and-calm-corner/10040324/","projectTitle":"Seating for Small Groups and Calm Corner","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kelsey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10214901_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760360034906","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10214901"},{"teacherId":10214901,"projectId":9639676,"letterContent":"These items have helped our classroom immensely. Even down to the cleaning supplies as there is the flu (both), COVID, stomach bugs, and more going around. With these I am able to keep my room clean and healthy for the students. The mat, cushions, bookshelf, and books have all been so helpful for my students to help encourage independent reading. When we have Reading corner they grab a cushion after choosing a book from the bookshelf (I rotate books every other day) which is helping with decoding wording and our fluency. \r\nThe classroom partition/divider has been so helpful when I need to pull a small group or doing assessments, benchmarking, or anything like that where I need to minimize the distractions. The stool has been helpful for me to have a seat when pulling groups by not having to drag my bulky desk chair around and it helps me go from table to table when students need help when working. \r\nAll the social emotional items have helped my students with recognizing feelings and ways to handle the emotions. The microfiber towels help with small or big cleanups and as a protective mat when doing arts and crafts. This is helping my students grow both academically and with their social emotional learning.
