Students used chalk and chalkboards to search the playground for words with the short i sound, reading each word aloud before writing it with their new colorful chalk. At the picnic tables, students used wooden alphabet tiles to identify sounds in CVC words and spell them, while others practiced counting and building numbers to 20 using wooden log slices and wooden loose parts. Students also used clipboards to engage in grade-level appropriate drawing and writing tasks. Throughout these stations, students were focused, on task, and highly engaged in their learning.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. The bright chalk, wooden pieces, and natural seating invited curiosity and joy. During buddy reading time, one sixth-grade buddy read gingerbread stories under the trees while kindergarteners relaxed on their new comfy leaf seats. One student smiled and said, \"Oh my goodness, I am so comfy!\" The calm, welcoming environment supported student engagement and helped learners feel confident and eager to participate.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue building on these experiences as I create additional resources with the other materials you helped us receive. For example, painted storytelling rocks, will allow students to listen to a story and work together to sequence its events, strengthening comprehension and collaboration. Students will also use a wooden easel with magnetic letters to build and manipulate CVC words. I can't wait to think of creative ways to use these materials in order to review and extend student learning. Outdoor learning stations are being shared with my grade-level partner so that all kindergarten students at Mission can benefit from this joyful, nature-based way of learning. Weather permitting, we plan to engage in outdoor learning at least once a week, ensuring these materials continue to support meaningful, focused learning beyond the classroom walls.","fullyFundedDate":1758391413780,"projectUrl":"project/rocks-leaves-and-letters-nature-based/9444329/","projectTitle":"Rocks, Leaves, and Letters: Nature-Based Kindergarten Stations","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McAllister","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3792871_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751520421503","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/morganmcallister"},{"teacherId":5636382,"projectId":9009370,"letterContent":"My littles students have thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from the resources you helped provide! \r\n\r\nMy favorite memory is of two particular students, one in 1st grade student and one in Kindergarten.
