Last week my first semester, 8th grade Medical Detectives completed 3 full days of dissecting frogs. They started by examining the exterior of the frog and then moved on to the interior. \r\n\r\nOnce they opened the chest and abdominal cavities they located and removed the organs of the digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems while noting their appearance and function. They also identified and observed some of the unique structures of the frog such as the nictitating membranes, the webbed toes, the rock-solid eyeballs, and the fat bodies. \r\n\r\nThis was a great way to end our unit on the body systems. I've had many students ask when they can dissect again and one even commented that she would now like to become a surgeon. \r\n\r\nThank you for helping to provide such a valuable and memorable learning experience to my students.
