The Who Would Win? book collection has become a central part of our nonfiction unit. Students are using these books to practice important skills such as identifying text features, comparing information, and supporting their ideas with evidence. One of the most memorable classroom moments happened during a partner activity where students read about two animals and worked together to decide which one would win in a battle. They had to use facts from the text to justify their thinking. The conversations were incredible—students were engaged in thoughtful discussions, respectfully debating their ideas, and proudly sharing their conclusions with the class. It was amazing to see their confidence and critical thinking skills grow right before my eyes.\r\n\r\nThe Magic Tree House books have also brought so much excitement into our classroom. These books are being used during independent reading and small group instruction, helping to build fluency and foster a love of reading. Many of my students, especially those who were once hesitant readers, are now eagerly reaching for these books because they are filled with great adventures that excite my second graders!\r\nIn addition, the class set of headphones has transformed our station rotations. Students are able to fully focus during listening and technology-based activities, which has helped create a more productive and calm learning environment. As my students enter the room, they start their day by selecting a center of choice prior to our scheduled circle time. My ECSE 3's group are eager to enter the Vet center each day. It is currently the center of choice for most of my students. They dress up as doctors and nurses. They treat the animals by giving them shots, listening to their hearts, and putting them in the carrier to rest. I recently witnessed one of my students petting the weighted kitty after a shot saying \" All better!\" and kissing it on the head. It was so sweet.! As I revealed the center, their eyes got big and they headed over eager for me to let them in. I demonstrated briefly how to use the supplies, and then let them explore. The next step is to push in and model asking questions . I want them asking each other questions and responding. We are working to build vocabulary, and collaborative play. At this age, turn taking, and sharing is a challenge. It is going well. They love it.
