Their smiles, excitement, and expressions of appreciation reminded me that even something as simple as a snack can make a meaningful difference in a child's day. Many of our scholars come to school ready to learn, but having access to a snack helps them feel comfortable, supported, and prepared to participate in classroom activities.\r\n\r\nWe are using the donated snacks as part of our daily classroom routine. Students are able to enjoy a snack during designated times while continuing to build positive classroom relationships and prepare themselves to engage in learning. Having snacks available allows us to provide our scholars with an additional layer of support throughout the school day. It also gives us opportunities to teach students important skills such as responsibility, sharing, gratitude, and making healthy choices.\r\n\r\nOne special classroom moment occurred when students received their snacks and immediately began thanking us for thinking about them. Some students were eager to share their excitement with their classmates, while others simply enjoyed having something to look forward to during the school day. Moments like these show me that supporting the whole child goes beyond academics. When students feel cared for and valued, they are more comfortable taking risks, asking questions, participating, and persevering when learning becomes challenging.\r\n\r\nOur current lessons focus on strengthening students' literacy and math skills. We are working on identifying and applying target skills through hands-on activities, academic games, small-group instruction, and opportunities for students to explain their thinking. The snacks help students remain focused and energized as they participate in these learning experiences.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building academic confidence while providing engaging opportunities for students to practice the skills they are learning. We will continue using small-group activities, collaborative learning, movement, games, and other hands-on experiences to help scholars master their target skills. We want our students to understand that learning can be challenging while also being exciting and rewarding.\r\n\r\nI am incredibly grateful to our donors for investing in our scholars. At the beginning of the year, I had 2-3 scholars that were on grade level readers. Our school does not have a library and I work in a low income school. I wanted to make reading not only fun for my scholars, but accessible. I wanted to give them tools or a reading connection even when they went home. Your donation did that. Every scholar received a book that they could call their own. \r\n\r\nMy scholars have grown as readers, but they were intimidated by chapter books. They thought they would never be able to read these fun books! Now, a month and a half later, I see them indulging in these books when they have free time, when they finish an assignment early, during dismissal, and choosing to take them to recess. I am so thankful that their love for reading and confidence has grown tremendously!
