For the past couple of weeks, I have a student choose a book for me to read aloud to the small group and then we talk about the characters, setting, plot or problem in the story, the resolution, and sometimes we discuss how the story could have a different ending. The conversations have been engaging!\r\n\r\nMost of my students were very happy to see the new books in our classroom. Some of them thought they were going to be asked to read each book aloud and kept their distance from the books. However, as I began to select one book every other day, students became interested and listened with much interest. \r\n\r\nThese decodable books have been very helpful during our one-to-one reading time when students get to choose a book for them to read aloud to me or my Instructional Assistant (IA). Some students have asked to choose a book for them to read on their own as well!
