They focus their reading lessons for the next week on the picture books they choose. Not only are they able to practice reading but the stories have life lessons and they are able to learn from them too. Our collection is small and it means the world to us that, with your help, we are able to expand it.\r\n\tThe day the box arrived with all the books I called the students down to the library and we had a little party. I showed them all the books and told them what they are about. They were so excited to see the books! One student was so excited about the book A Bad Case of the Stripes by David Shannon that he wouldn't let anyone look at it and wanted to read it right away.\r\n\tEven though the picture books are mostly used in the special education program, everyone has access to them. We have a lot of older siblings who check them out to read to their younger siblings. We also have a lot of teachers who use them to guide lessons or conversations. The books we received will be read by a student population of over 500 kids. Charles Eliot once said, \"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.\" I have seen kids fall in love with reading and find themselves in books. Books have such an impact on readers and change lives every day.","fullyFundedDate":1766507684956,"projectUrl":"project/a-picture-book-for-every-reader/9800102/","projectTitle":"A Picture Book for Every Reader","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cobban","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8843407"},{"teacherId":8843407,"projectId":9234148,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contributions. This project was a blessing, we were able to get over twenty new titles!\r\nI had the pleasure of working with three students who are very prominent in the library and very avid readers, together we created this list. With the Care Closet being restocked, you have continued to make an impact on the daily lives of middle schoolers in central Maine. And not just in one classroom! Some of my students come to me asking for supplies for their friends. Sometimes, their friends (or even random students I've never met) come by themselves because they know that they can access deodorant after gym class or a hair tie and bobby pins to fix a bad hair day. No one gets turned away!\r\n\r\nAnd, truly, that is all due to you! Students who are running late for school, don't have necessary supplies at home, or even just dealing with a mid-day odor caused by changing hormones, fluctuating Maine spring temperatures, or a class that requires physical activity, can just have their needs comfortably met.
