My students are truly enjoying the novel \"We Are Not From Here\" by Jenny Torres Sanchez. This particular text is helping my students build their empathetic skills. Students are putting themselves in others' shoes, helping them understand the world around them. I have seen students practice more patience, acceptance, and open-mindedness when interacting with those students who come from different backgrounds than their own. Even reluctant readers have been drawn to this new novel. This novel has sparked a lot of creative thinking.
