My students are thriving with the materials and environment you helped me to create.\r\n\r\nFirstly, students are better able to focus with dim classroom lighting. I have had no complaints of headaches caused by bright lights, and children have reported feeling calmer. Additionally, they can adjust the amount of light near them to accommodate different needs.\r\n\r\nSecondly, using a color printer has changed the game, particularly for my Emergent Bilingual students. They have been particularly been enjoying looking at comics/pictures to help comprehend text, as well as color-coded emotion wheels to identify the feelings of literary characters. This has helped them immensely to move beyond simple descriptors like \"sad\" or \"surprised\", and into alternatives like \"despairing\" and \"startled\". Additionally, this color ink has helped me to chunk assignments to make them less overwhelming, create an image-based word wall to expand the kids' vocabulary, and to color-code classroom resources according to class period to help organization.\r\n\r\nThird, the raffle tickets, prizes, and pencil pouches have been instrumental in keeping the kids organized and motivated. I hardly have to lend out pencils, and they are excited to save up tickets to earn prizes once a month (300 for a class pizza party!).\r\n\r\nFourth, the shoe organizer has been great for keeping headphones organized, so that our kids can use their text to speech accommodations easily. Instead of a box of tangled wires, our headphones are now separated and organized so that we can transition smoothly and maximize instructional time.\r\n\r\nAnd lastly, the chair bands have been great for my kids who need high stimulation or to fidget. Having to sit down in a chair for long periods of time is hard; these chair bands have been great for helping the kids to get a little bit of that energy out in the moments where they can't stand or walk around.\r\n\r\nOverall, thank you greatly for your support. My kids are showing tremendous progress already, and it is thanks to your generous donations. Even though some of these things seem small, I promise that they have tremendous impact in kids' productivity and feeling of safety in school. Teaching middle school science to students who are trying to master complex academic concepts while simultaneously learning a brand-new language is no easy task. But your support gave us the exact tools we needed to bring science to life and make it accessible every single day. We jumped right in and turned the composition notebooks into interactive science journals. My students used them to sketch out physical versus chemical changes, map out Newton's laws of motion, write down key vocabulary, and record their lab observations. The binders were a game-changer for their organizational habits, giving them a safe place to keep track of their lab reports and data sheets. The flashcards quickly became a class favorite—my students turned what could have been boring vocabulary drills into lively, cooperative study games that helped them master tough scientific terms.
