I used the funds to purchase anatomy models of the knee joint, the kidney, and the human ear. We also purchased triple-injected kidneys for our kidney dissection. The triple-injected kidneys have three colors injected: red for arteries, blue for veins, and yellow for urine. With these kidneys, it is really easy for the students to visualize the structures of the kidneys. We also have some dissection mats that will help with finding structures.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to see the models! They really enjoyed trying out the knee model. Several of my students are athletes, so we identified the ACL and MCL. My students and I are very grateful that we have another learning space we can utilize throughout our school day.\r\n\r\nMy students use this rug for morning meeting, centers, read alouds, math games, and more. This provides us with more flexibility and movement throughout the day. Another benefit is that they are able to collaborate and communicate effectively with one another. With this new furniture item, it provides them more opportunities to talk to more of their classmates. My students can communicate with peers that do not sit directly next to them at their desks. Therefore, there are more opportunities to share and listen to new ideas.\r\n\r\nAgain, we appreciate all that you have done to provide us with an additional learning space. They have absolutely been helpful in my classroom in multiple classes. I have used them in biology, honors biology, and my climate science class. Learning about charges on atoms can be an abstract concept, and many of my students didn't love chemistry. The water cup helped them see, in a tangible way, how water molecules interact.\r\n\r\nBefore I even told them they were water molecules, I simply put the manipulatives out on the table. I asked students to try things out, and they wrote down what they noticed and what they had questions about. In this way, students were able to develop their own understandings of the interactions of water. I followed this up with a lesson on the properties of water. I included some special tie ins to our local area, as I am in a rural area with a lot of students who go ice fishing and work on farms. \r\n\r\nThese manipulatives are wonderful but expensive. Thanks to your generous donations, I was able to purchase an entire class set at once rather than slowly accumulating over multiple years. My students were so excited to unpack the boxes with me. I have several students in electives that were in my class last year, and they all commented on how much nicer the paper holders are. We use them for doing station activities in class. They also love the acrylic sign holders for labeling lab stations; it's much easier to notice than paper taped to the lab bench.\r\n\r\nWe have used the white board cleaner so much to clean our main board and the small boards from the donation. Students use the small boards to collaborate in small groups or answer questions individually so that they're all participating in class.\r\n\r\nRight now, we are finishing up macromolecules and the properties of water. Soon, we will be headed into parts of the cell.
