It was so sweet, yesterday one of the students saw the Rubix cube on the shelf and asked to play with it. Then another student asked if I had a figit he could play with. It was so wonderful to be able to pull out a box of figits for him to choose one. They passed them around taking turns and made sure to return them at the end of the period. \r\nThe prizes are for following expectations, completing work, good quality work, collaboration and other positive things I see in the classroom. It ties in with our school reward system of PARK tickets (or school money). However, they now have the option of turning those tickets they earned in my classroom in for prizes and stickers. I have a fun collection of prizes and stickers that should last all year that they can choose from. And if they want some Play Doh or a snake figit they can save up more tickets to earn those higher value items. It has been so rewarding to see students counting up their tickets and turning them in for a prize of their choice.","fullyFundedDate":1747777512503,"projectUrl":"project/prizes-fidgets-for-science-success/9146301/","projectTitle":"Prizes & Fidgets for Science Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Capistran","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9937000"},{"teacherId":2132278,"projectId":9171325,"letterContent":"I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your generous support of our project, 3D Printing for Engineering and Inquiry. Thanks to your contribution, my students now have the opportunity to step into the role of engineers, designers, and problem-solvers in ways that were simply not possible before. Your gift has brought powerful tools into our classroom that are already sparking innovation, collaboration, and authentic scientific inquiry.\r\n\r\nIn our middle school STEM program, we focus on giving students experiences that help them see themselves as capable scientists and engineers. From the moment the printer arrived, curiosity and excitement filled the room. \r\n\r\nThis year students will start by learning the basics of 3D modeling software and discovering how to transform their ideas into tangible objects. They will be using engineering practices to design prototypes, test their ideas, and refine their work. Students have worked on practical items, such as creating custom lab tools or replacement parts for classroom equipment. Each design reflects not only creativity but also persistence and problem-solving skills.\r\n\r\nThe impact extends far beyond technical skills. 3D printing allows students to see that their ideas matter, that they can create something valuable and useful for their community. For many of my students, especially those who may not always see themselves represented in STEM fields, this project provides a powerful sense of belonging and confidence. When they hold a completed design in their hands, they realize that science and engineering are not distant or abstract concepts, but something they can actively do.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has also allowed us to integrate 3D printing into collaborative, inquiry-driven projects. Students are working in teams to design, build, and test prototypes, mirroring the authentic processes of engineers and researchers. They are learning not only technical skills but also how to communicate ideas, give and receive feedback, and persevere when designs don't go as planned. These lessons in collaboration, resilience, and creativity will serve them well in every area of their lives.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, it is deeply moving to watch students light up with pride as they see their designs come to life. None of this would have been possible without your support. You have given my students the gift of opportunity, the chance to see themselves as innovators and to practice skills that will prepare them for future STEM careers.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of my students, thank you again for investing in their learning, their creativity, and their futures. Your generosity has made a lasting impact, and we are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1746541056020,"projectUrl":"project/3d-printing-for-engineering-and-inquiry/9171325/","projectTitle":"3D Printing for Engineering and Inquiry","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ferris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2132278_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726365641677","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-ferris"},{"teacherId":9933112,"projectId":9135489,"letterContent":"With your generous donation, we were able to use the makeup kits for Meadow Park Theater Company's production of the hit musical \"Newsies\". The new garden tools arrived just in time for our school habitat restoration project, and the excitement was palpable. Students eagerly unpacked the trowels, gloves, and pruners, many of them commenting that they felt like \"real scientists and gardeners.\" These tools have transformed our native pollinator garden project from an idea into reality. Instead of relying on borrowed or improvised materials, each student now has the resources to safely and confidently participate in planting, weeding, and soil preparation.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful moments happened so far, was when a group of students worked together to spear the bark chips in the garden. Using their new tools, they carefully spread the bark chip to start to kill the grass in our garden space. Watching them take ownership of their space and speak knowledgeably about the plan was incredibly powerful. Our next steps include planting the garden boxes, installing wildlife habitats, and collecting data on pollinator activity.
