Students are using the instruments daily to explore rhythm, melody, harmony, and composition—not just listening, but creating. We use the pianos for warm-ups, small-group practice, accompaniment for singing, and beginner composition. Having enough instruments means students can rotate through hands-on stations instead of waiting for a turn, which has dramatically increased engagement and confidence.\r\n\r\nA moment we'll never forget\r\nWhen the pianos were delivered, the room went silent—then erupted in whispers of \"Is that really for us?\" One student gently touched the keys and said, \"I didn't know school could have something like this.\" That same class later worked on a project where students composed short melodies inspired by stories they were reading in literacy class. One group proudly performed their piece for classmates, explaining how they used higher notes to show excitement and lower notes to show calm. Watching them connect music to storytelling was a powerful reminder of why these resources matter.\r\n\r\nStudent reactions\r\nThe excitement was immediate and genuine. Students who were once hesitant to participate are now eager to lead demonstrations. Many ask if they can practice during recess or talk about showing their families what they've learned. The pianos made music feel real and important—not just an extra, but something worth mastering.\r\n\r\nWhat's next\r\nRight now, students are working on a unit focused on collaboration and performance. They're learning how to practice together, listen to one another, and prepare a short ensemble piece using piano accompaniment. Our next step is to host small in-class performances where students can showcase their growth and reflect on the learning process. Looking ahead, we plan to introduce basic music notation and student-led compositions, building skills that will carry them into middle school and beyond.\r\n\r\nBy contributing to this project, you didn't just donate instruments—you opened doors to creativity, confidence, and connection. Our students feel seen, supported, and inspired, and we are deeply grateful for the role you played in making that possible. 🎶","fullyFundedDate":1760693619683,"projectUrl":"project/singing-in-the-rain-and-sunshine/9769043/","projectTitle":"Singing in the Rain and Sunshine!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Monica","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9269819_orig.jpg?crop=1592,1592,x0,y907&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1695951943131","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9269819"},{"teacherId":9605686,"projectId":9782544,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of the soccer ball pump, jerseys, and cones. These resources have made a meaningful difference for my students. We are using them daily during physical education and recess, where students now have organized games with clear teams and defined play areas. One special moment was seeing students work together to set up the field using the cones and proudly put on their jerseys before starting a game. Their experience playing soccer has become more official and exciting for them.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reactions were full of excitement and curiosity. They immediately wanted to know whose team they were on and when they could start playing. The jerseys, in particular, helped create a sense of belonging and teamwork, and it was wonderful to see how this encouraged more participation. The structured setup also made soccer more appealing for girls in the class, and many who previously chose not to play have now joined in and are actively participating alongside their classmates.\r\n\r\nNext, my students will continue building teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship skills as part of our current physical education lessons. We are focusing on practicing basic soccer skills, learning rules of fair play, and reflecting on how teamwork helps everyone succeed.
