Each title seems to open a new door for my students. We've been practicing skills like identifying theme, analyzing character traits, and using evidence to support our ideas, but most importantly, we're learning how to think like readers—to wonder, predict, connect, and reflect.\r\n\r\nReading time in our room is one of the most joyful parts of our day. You'll find students curled up with their independent books, discussing what they've discovered with a partner, or jotting quick notes on sticky tabs to capture their thinking. Our read-alouds spark laughter, curiosity, and sometimes even quiet moments of reflection. There's a shared sense of excitement when someone finds a new favorite author or can't wait to recommend a story to a friend. This allows these 5th graders to learn about real life topics that happen all over the world. It has allowed us to talk about real life topics and engage in great discussions about things that happen outside of our little town. \r\n\r\nStudents get so excited to receive their new magazine every week! They love taking turns reading the articles aloud and testing their comprehension with the short quiz that's included.
