After seeing the positive influence these snacks had on student well-being, attendance, and behavior, I was inspired to create a school food pantry to further support their needs.\r\n\r\nThe snacks were used daily to help students stay focused, regulated, and ready to learn. Many of our students face food insecurity, and having access to snacks throughout the school day has made a noticeable difference. One particularly meaningful change has been a reduction in the number of times students leave campus or nearby areas to get food, which previously sometimes led to poor choices, including shoplifting.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the snacks, they were excited and grateful. Many expressed appreciation for having something available when they were hungry, and staff quickly noticed improvements in students' ability to engage in class and remain in school throughout the day.\r\n\r\nAs a result of this project, we have also seen improvements in attendance and students staying for the entire school day or most of the day. Knowing that basic needs are being met helps students feel supported and connected to school.\r\n\r\nOur next step is expanding the food pantry so that students and families can access additional food resources when needed. We will continue using DonorsChoose to support student wellness, remove barriers to learning, and create an environment where students can focus on their education and future success.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make this possible.
