Your gift provided our students with access to a powerful and essential memoir—one that opened the door to meaningful discussions about history, humanity, and moral responsibility. Having enough copies for every student made it possible for us to read and explore the text together, creating a shared learning experience that would not have been possible without your support.\r\nAs we moved through the memoir, students were deeply engaged and emotionally affected by Wiesel's story. Many expressed how the book challenged their understanding of the Holocaust and gave them a more personal, human perspective on the events. They asked thoughtful questions, made connections to modern issues, and demonstrated a level of empathy and reflection that was inspiring to witness. Several students shared that Night was one of the most memorable and impactful texts they have read in school.\r\nYour generosity did more than place books in their hands—it helped foster compassion, critical thinking, and a greater awareness of the importance of remembrance. Thank you for investing in our students and their education. Your support has made a meaningful difference in our classroom, and we are truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1744202264401,"projectUrl":"project/voices-of-resilience-essential-holocaus/9245236/","projectTitle":"Voices of Resilience: Essential Holocaust Reads for High School Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Alicia Ruiz-Laufer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9623925_orig.png?crop=362,362,x0,y14&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741852083986","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9623925"},{"teacherId":7939856,"projectId":9442196,"letterContent":"Thank you very much for your generosity. Because of the materials your grant provided, my classroom has transformed into a calm, welcoming space and my students noticed it immediately. The moment they walked in and saw the forest and sky-themed light covers, several of them stopped in the doorway and said the room felt \"calmer\" and \"more chill\" than any of their other classes. The softer lighting and greenery have made the room feel less like a traditional classroom and more like a space where they can breathe, reset, and focus.\r\n\r\nThe plants have also become an unexpected source of joy. Students comment that the room feels more alive, \"like having class outside.\" Even our fire inspectors were stunned. Both of them paused right inside the doorway, said \"wow,\" and told me this was the best room they had visited in the whole school. They even asked to take photos!\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful impacts has been on a group of Chuukese seniors who come from fairly chaotic home environments. Since the room makeover, they've started eating lunch together in my classroom every day. The calming atmosphere seems to give them a sense of stability and peace, and I truly believe it's helping them with self-regulation and connection during a stressful senior year.\r\n\r\nYour support didn't just provide decorations. You helped create a space where students feel comfortable, focused, and cared for. Your contribution allowed every student to access this meaningful text, and it immediately transformed the way they approached Anne Frank's story. The visual format brought her experiences to life in a vivid and accessible way, helping students better understand the emotional and historical weight of her journey during one of the darkest moments in human history.\r\nAs we read together, the graphic novel format supported deeper classroom discussions and more engaged participation. Students were able to visualize the cramped spaces of the Secret Annex, the tension the family lived with daily, and Anne's resilience and hope despite overwhelming fear. This enhanced their comprehension and enriched our conversations about character development, theme, symbolism, and historical context. The imagery paired with Anne's words helped students of all reading levels connect more personally with the text and practice core English skills such as close reading, inference, and textual analysis.\r\nYour donation also opened the door to profound learning about the Holocaust. Many students shared that this was their first time truly understanding the human impact of these events. Through the combination of art and narrative, they gained empathy, historical awareness, and a stronger sense of responsibility to remember and reflect. Many of them are able to sympathize and empathize with the people in the adaptation, and have a lot to say about the horrors that were endured at the time. It has become a point of discussion amongst the students when they answer reading response questions for me about how the people must have felt at the time, and why such events occurred. \r\nWe don't read the entire book at once in my classroom, due to the reading level and needs of the students, so I have assigned about 30 pages a week for students to read and write a response to. Many of them, however, couldn't stop, and continued reading!\r\nMy students from Chuuk are especially interested in the story, and have a lot to write about their reactions to Anne Frank's responses to the events that happened to her. Some of them describe the hardships in Chuuk, and compare it to Anne, which extends their connection to the text. Quite a few students said \"it's a really good book\", and they read ahead.\r\nThe writing prompt cards are being used as bellringer discussions next quarter with my Honors classes, as we explore what it means to be an author, and create our own class anthology.\r\nAll students are enjoying using the Connect Four and the charging station - the charging station (as one student says) \"is a safe place to leave my phone\" because it's not only fast, its also at the front of the room, where everyone can see it.\r\nThank you for enriching our learning community with your donation.","fullyFundedDate":1759312307507,"projectUrl":"project/freedom-writers-part-3-courage-under-fi/9773386/","projectTitle":"Freedom Writers Part 3: Courage under Fire","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tanaka","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7781145_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x0,y256&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1644435760278","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/irene-tanaka"},{"teacherId":8827995,"projectId":9772625,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my project. Your support has made a significant impact on our students' well-being and engagement.\r\n\r\nWe are using the modeling clay for creative expression during our individual and group sessions, allowing students to communicate their feelings in a unique way. During one session, a student created a beautiful clay figure that represented their emotions, sparking a meaningful discussion. Then the other students joined and created their own snowman. It's symbolic is rebuilding and resilience. In that, when life doesn't go our way...and melts away our needs and hopes we learn to problem solve and find ways to bounce back. The yoga mats have become essential for mindfulness activities, helping students learn to ground themselves, relax, slow down and focus. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement especially the snacks.
