All three of these selected books feature teenage main characters who are relatable to my students. These sets of books will be offered as choices for students to read during our literature circle unit, a collaborative unit where they read and discuss books in groups. The majority of my students are Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI), and there are currently a lack of books in my classroom written by AAPI authors. I want to make sure that my students can see themselves in the books that we read and know that their backgrounds are valued and worth reading about!
