Reading instruction in the Spanish language classroom provides my students the skillset to acquire the language through immersive reading activities. The students have equitable access to a variety of literature and have the opportunity to participate in free-choice reading in Spanish. Students can connect to a new cultural experience or can relate to similar experiences in their own lives. The classroom display in our classroom also creates a wonderful intercultural experience!\r\n\r\nStudents journal about their reading through a variety of activities, such as visual retells of the content and read-alouds with a partner in order to practice the pronunciation and fluency. My students come from a variety of previous Spanish language learning experiences, including those students who are heritage learners and newcomers to our school community.
