We use the donated writing materials throughout the classroom so students can draw, make marks, practice forming letters, write their names, and begin expressing their ideas through pictures and print.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to see the new materials and begin exploring them. One of the most rewarding parts has been watching students get excited about writing because they have engaging materials available. In preschool, early writing is about much more than forming letters correctly. When students draw a picture, try to write their name, make a sign for a block structure, create a grocery list in dramatic play, or tell a story through pictures and beginning letters, they develop important literacy skills. These materials also strengthen the fine-motor skills students need to become more confident and independent writers.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue providing meaningful writing opportunities throughout the classroom rather than limiting writing to one specific activity or center. Students will use the materials during dramatic play, literacy activities, art, learning centers, and classroom projects. As their skills develop, we will encourage them to move from drawing and making marks toward writing letters, names, labels, and simple messages. My students are getting to explore more science materials and connect them to the world around them because of you guys!\r\n\r\nWe are ending the school year with our insect and animal units and they are having SO much fun doing bug puzzles, playing games with each others, explore the life cycles of insects and completing letter and number puzzles. I choose to collect some math counting data by using the ten frame popits and the loved those and I even saw an increase in data because of these! They help keep their attention long enough to count and some were able to combine multiple popits and count on up to 60! My students have been working on turn taking and positively interacting with each other while they explore these items! I've noticed more peer communication and questions being asked about the materials they are interacting with! \r\n\r\nWe greatly appreciate your generosity in donating to our project!
