One standout project has been our owl pellet dissection lab. During this activity, students analyzed the contents of owl pellets to reconstruct food chains and better understand predator-prey relationships. This experience allowed them to think and work like scientists by collecting and interpreting real data. Their engagement was exceptional—we even extended the lab by an additional day because of their enthusiasm and curiosity.\r\n\r\nWhen students were first introduced to the materials, their excitement was immediate. Many were eager to begin working right away and were fascinated by the opportunity to participate in a real-world scientific investigation. The hands-on nature of the activity captured their attention and motivated them to ask deeper questions about ecosystems and food webs.\r\n\r\nIn addition, we are using the dissolved oxygen meter to monitor the health of our outdoor pond as part of an ongoing environmental science project. This tool has significantly improved the accuracy and efficiency of our data collection compared to previous methods. As we move forward, students will continue testing water quality and using their data to determine when conditions are suitable for introducing fish into the pond. This will lead into further studies on aquatic ecosystems, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making these impactful learning experiences possible for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1765837540348,"projectUrl":"project/making-science-real/9848370/","projectTitle":"Making Science Real!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McMillan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10268008"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_12972","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":427,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":41,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":51,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"10.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.7,"schoolId":12972,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about McGregor High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"McGregor High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/mcgregor-ind-school-district/mcgregor-high-school/12972"}
