In Pre-K, students learn through play, so the more fun they are having the more engaged they are and the more meaningful (and lasting) their learning will be. For this project I asked for a variety of materials to supplement literacy, math, and science while also supporting social-emotional skills. Our children were so excited every time I got out one of the new materials, and continue to actively engage with them every day.\r\n Our light table had not been getting used very much as the kids had become bored with the few items that we had to use with it. Since adding the cool eight-piece library of different manipulatives, they are now having to take turns with the variety of items to sort, count, and pattern in a beautiful array of colors. \r\n Our block center always has wooden blocks and plastic people, animals and vehicles, but since we started rotating the animal habitat block sets through, their imaginations have been fired into some new and exciting directions. We are able to engage in a wider variety of instructional conversations, and provide even more expanded vocabulary.\r\n Thanks to the alpha dough stampers, our playdoh center now has a strong literacy component. Students have been engaging in rolling out the dough and trying to build their names (and other words) using the stampers. It has been giving us more opportunities to talk about letter names and phonemes, especially when it comes to combining them. \r\n In the math center the children have had an absolute blast with the magnetic number tiles. As they build their three-dimensional shapes we are able to reinforce number recognition, counting skills, subitizing, and even basic addition. The same is true for the peg number boards, which reinforce the number of pegs for each board graphicly for a more concrete association. Finally, the sequencing train has been a valuable tool for demonstrating place value concept of number. \r\n We haven't gotten the block play crane out just yet because I am saving it to use with our unit on simple machines, but I anticipate it being the crowning feature of a fantastic array of educational manipulatives.","fullyFundedDate":1768519644229,"projectUrl":"project/make-learning-more-fun-in-pre-k/10017140/","projectTitle":"Make Learning More Fun in Pre-K!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jenny","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8185717_orig.jpg?crop=481,481,x0,y80&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699975971035","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8185717"},{"teacherId":8109584,"projectId":8498037,"letterContent":"The new supplies and items truly helped us continue our journey! One of our favorite moments happens during small-group time, when students excitedly rotate through the letter stations—tracing letters, matching sounds, and building words. I've watched students who once hesitated to write now proudly point to letters they recognize and say their sounds out loud with confidence.\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were absolutely thrilled. They gathered around as we opened the boxes, eagerly naming letters they saw and asking when they could start using them. The excitement was contagious, and it immediately made letter learning feel fun and special instead of intimidating. Even students who are usually shy couldn't wait to try the activities, turning letter practice into a joyful, shared experience.\r\nBecause of these resources, our next step is deepening students' phonics skills by connecting letters to the sounds they hear in words. We are beginning to blend and segment simple words, using the alphabet tools to build and read them together. Your support has given my students a strong foundation, and it continues to move them forward as confident, capable readers.","fullyFundedDate":1701233600273,"projectUrl":"project/a-is-for-alphabet/8047899/","projectTitle":"A Is for Alphabet!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Michaela","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5362999_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768241573834","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-marich"},{"teacherId":8236303,"projectId":7986487,"letterContent":"I would once again like to express my deepest gratitude to all those who contributed to my project.
