This has especially helped students who benefit from a quieter, more personalized learning environment.\r\n\r\nFor many of our students, having access to their own set of quality headphones is a new experience—and one that helps them feel more confident and prepared. Since incorporating them into our curriculum, I've seen a remarkable increase in student engagement, collaboration, and enthusiasm for learning.\r\n\r\nRobotics brings STEM concepts to life in a hands-on and interactive way. Students not only learn about coding and engineering, but they also develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. Watching their ideas take shape in a moving, functioning robot makes abstract concepts feel tangible and exciting.\r\n\r\nThese tools have helped make learning more inclusive and accessible, reaching students with a wide range of interests and abilities. The experience empowers them to take ownership of their learning and builds their confidence in tackling complex challenges.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting innovative tools like robotics in education. After incorporating this novel into our reading curriculum, I have witnessed firsthand how it has touched my students' lives, encouraging their personal growth, empathy, and deeper understanding of themselves and others.\r\n\r\nThe story, told from the perspectives of seven different students, explores the themes of friendship, leadership, kindness, and the challenges that come with growing up. The way the characters evolve throughout the book gave my students the opportunity to reflect on their own lives, their relationships, and how they navigate the ups and downs of school and social dynamics.\r\n\r\nOne of the most impactful aspects of Because of Mr. Terupt was the way it allowed my students to engage with complex emotions in a safe and supportive environment. The story's emphasis on character development sparked meaningful class discussions about topics such as empathy, resilience, and overcoming adversity. My students, many of whom faced their own challenges, were able to connect with the characters' struggles and triumphs, opening up conversations that might not have otherwise taken place.\r\n\r\nIn particular, the character of Mr. Terupt himself has had a lasting influence on my students. His approach to teaching, which centers on respect, understanding, and encouragement, has inspired them to adopt a more compassionate and positive mindset toward one another. Several students have expressed how they now strive to be more supportive and considerate in their interactions, echoing Mr. Terupt's own approach to teaching and life.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the book encouraged strong collaboration and teamwork in our classroom. Through group activities and projects centered around the themes of the book, students worked together to explore how to build and maintain healthy friendships and deal with the challenges of being a middle schooler. The multi-perspective narrative structure helped them see different points of view and understand the importance of listening to others' experiences.\r\n\r\nBecause of Mr. Terupt has truly been a valuable resource, not just for academic growth but for fostering a sense of community and mutual respect in the classroom. The conversations it sparked, the lessons it imparted, and the emotional growth it prompted in my students were invaluable. I look forward to continuing to use this book in my classroom for years to come, as it serves as a bridge to open-hearted discussions and a greater sense of understanding among students.\r\n\r\nThank you for allowing this book to be part of my students' educational journey. The impact it has made on them will surely extend beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1726774742037,"projectUrl":"project/relating-through-reading/8488885/","projectTitle":"Relating Through Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Payne","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6014429_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721491397987","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6014429"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_77537","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":346,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":75,"percentWhite":21,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"15.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":63.5,"schoolId":77537,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mathis Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mathis Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/hayti-school-district-r-2/mathis-elementary-school/77537"}
